What Are the GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders?
The GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders are a well-known, fully funded scholarship program that helps the future generation of health leaders and innovators in Africa. The program lets bright people get a full-time, one-year Master of Science (MSc) degree from the famous London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in the UK.
Three scholarships are available to help train and develop the next generation of global health professionals, as well as to boost Africa’s health systems and research capability.
These very competitive scholarships are offered to applicants who plan to enroll in a one-year, full-time, London-based (face-to-face) MSc program at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
This scholarship not only offers top-notch education, but it also works to improve public health outcomes across the continent by enhancing health systems, policies, research, and leadership abilities.
Award details
There are three scholarships available for the 2026-27 school year. The scholarships will cover:
Tuition expenses, including mandatory field trips, and a tax-free stipend (living allowance) of GBP 22,000.00.
Eligibility for financing.
To qualify for these awards, applicants must:
- Applicants must be nationals or residents of sub-Saharan African countries, intend to return to sub-Saharan Africa after completing their MSc year at LSHTM, demonstrate financial need for the proposed program of study, and meet LSHTM’s minimum English language requirements by Monday 15 June 2026. Apply through the online scholarship portal. Failure to do so may result in any scholarship offer being withdrawn and given to a reserve candidate instead.
- To enroll in one of LSHTM’s London-based intensive MSc programs in 2026-27, applicants must have a first degree (equivalent to first or upper second class) and an offer of admission.
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate (in their application documents) the ability to make major contributions to African public health and/or health-related research.

How to apply for this Scholarship Program?
The application process involves two steps.
To be eligible for funding, candidates must meet all qualifying criteria and complete both stages stated below before the scholarship deadline of 16:00 (BST) on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
- Once you have submitted your application to study, you should get an automated email from the Scholarships team (scholarships@lshtm.ac.uk) with a link to our online scholarships application gateway.
- This will generate a temporary password to use the first time you log in (via e-vision), which you should then update.
- If you want to apply for this award, please search for ‘GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders’ and then complete all of the questions online. When you are satisfied with all of your responses, click submit, and you should receive a confirmation of receipt email at your contact email address.
- The scholarships portal will be unable to accept applications after the deadline listed above.
- The Scholarships team will contact applicants in due course. Decisions will be made and successful applicants notified during the week of June 1, 2026.
