Origins and Evolution of Arco Group Plc
The Arco Group Plc was formed in 1980 as a family owned business first called Arco Petrochemical Engineering Co. Ltd, which represented the Nigerian branch of Nuovo Pignone SPA.
Nuovo Pignone, an Italian state company of that time, was well known for producing turbines, gas compressors, and crude oil pumps.
Following the acquisition of Nuovo Pignone by General Electric (GE) in 1999, Arco partnered with GE’s Oil and Gas Division. Arco developed a competitive advantage in maintenance engineering in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
Arco Petrochemical Engineering Co Plc was incorporated on June 24 2010 because of the success of capturing shareholders attention to value.
To better serve its growing business portfolio, Arco Group Plc was launched on September 11, 2014. This restructuring was in alignment with Arco’s strategic shift in maintaining engineering diversified to include energy solutions, pipeline and facility inspection, and marine logistics. The 7 years of change failed to meet growth targets outlined in previous years.
In the coming years, Arco aims to widen the scope of focus to Fuel and gas assets management and operations, Power, Real Estate & Hospitality, Technology, Agriculture, Financial Services, and Ped Transport and Logistics. It is expected to strengthen the group vision.
Currently, the Group has evolved from being a founder-centered business to an assemblage of self-managed subsidiaries, each in the hands of a trained manager, competent in his or her individual area of specialization, with over 45 years of industry experience.
Each subsidiary has a relative degree of financial independence, and this determines the consolidated visión of Arco’s financial accounts. Systematic approach to enduring development and operational productivity is well documented with this governance model.
