Job Purpose

  • The Assistant Manager, Financial Reporting provides technical and administrative support in the implementation of OERNL financial reporting strategies and obligations, which seek to assure the Company’s and its subsidiaries’ continuous efficiency, profitability, and growth.
  • The function is responsible for coordinating relationships between Financial Reporting Accountants.  Approve transactions being recorded and processed to ensure consistency and accuracy in reports that reflect the Company’s financial condition at all times.  The responsibilities also include reviewing the financial analysis of assigned firms to assist senior finance team members in managing working capital and liquidity.  The incumbent will also be in charge of presenting detailed financial information to the Financial Reporting Managers at the end of each reporting period.

Main Responsibility Areas

  • Review the statutory accounts of subsidiaries.
  • Approve corporate and other transactions and ensure they are posted appropriately and punctually.
  •  Review and approve financial analyses for both Nigerian and non-Nigerian entities.
  • Check and approve the IFRS disclosure checklists in place.  and implement solutions to unusual situations with a focus on results.
  •  Review and approve extensive analytical studies for use in internal and external reporting to key stakeholders.
  •  Provide assistance in ensuring strict adherence to established rules and procedures for internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Assist the financial reporting manager with managing audit obligations with EY and PwC for the consolidated entities.
  • Ensure transactions are documented in accordance with IFRS.
  • Create system templates for preparing relevant financial reports to track performance and support decision-making.
  • Key financial accounting inputs for tax audits.
  • Support the JV accounting team in dealing with difficult transactions.

Person Specifications

B.Sc degree in Accounting or a related degree

 Membership of a recognized Accounting Professional Body (ACA, ACCA, CPA)

 Working experience at a Big 4 audit and accounting firm or in the oil and gas industry will be advantageous.

 Good understanding of IFRS.

 Minimum of eight years of related job experience.

  • competent in preparing statutory financial statements.
  • Oil and Gas Accounting
  • Working  Knowledge of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, including PSC and joint venture arrangements, as well as important accounting concerns.
  • Understanding Current and Deferred Taxes
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and Oracle EBS.
  • Capability to think strategically and comprehensively, and provide direction and mentoring to the team.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Assist with the completion of statutory accounts for assigned subsidiaries.
  •  Complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes on time.
  •  Compliance with IFRS.
