Job Description
- As Migo’s Principal Data Scientist, you will be responsible for all aspects of our credit risk modeling approach, from designing and developing credit scoring, underwriting, and forecasting models to managing ML pipelines from start to finish.
- You will conduct research and implementation of cutting-edge modeling methodologies to ensure robust feature engineering, rigorous performance evaluation, and scalable production deployment. Your efforts will directly influence lending decisions, financial performance predictions, and market expansion initiatives.
- Working with cross-functional teams, you will generalize solutions for new markets, apply causal inference and statistical best practices, and uphold high standards of data integrity and model governance, assisting Migo in delivering responsible and data-driven financial products throughout Nigeria and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Complete ownership of ML models and credit risk modeling approach.
- Credit scoring models (probability of default and survival analysis models).
- Underwriting models include credit line assignment and risk assessment models.
- Forecasting models (expected financial contribution and performance indicators)
- Control over ML pipelines and workflows (ETL, data pretreatment, feature engineering, model training, model deployment)
Requirements for Principal Data Scientist at Migo Money Inc.
- A doctorate in computer science, statistics, economics, physics, or a related discipline; expertise in creating novel modeling techniques while integrating and modifying the most recent techniques in the area; and experience creating feature engineering and ETL data pipelines
- A thorough awareness of the inductive biases in machine learning and statistics techniques; a thorough comprehension of metrics and suitable model performance evaluation
- Strong knowledge and familiarity with causal inference concepts like positivity assumption, confounding, and exchangeability; the capacity to generalize product applications to new markets and collaborations; and a thorough comprehension of machine learning and statistical concepts like regularization, prediction vs. inference, multiple testing, cross-validation, and boosting/bagging
- Experience with a range of machine learning techniques, particularly those pertaining to tabular data and the lending/finance industry; familiarity with Python and object-oriented programming; ability to create and implement production models and contribute to shared, reusable libraries; familiarity with A/B testing; and complete command of SQL
