Job Description
Qatar Airways is delighted to announce an intriguing opportunity for a Senior People Safety & Health Officer to join our Group Risk, Safety & Security team in Lagos, Nigeria.
You will be accountable for championing and promoting health and safety throughout Qatar Airways Group by providing assistance and guidance on matters relating to health and safety in your capacity as a Senior People Safety and Health Officer.
In order to ensure the success of the Qatar Airways Occupational Health and Safety Management System, you will be responsible for managing occurrences related to QR Group Staff and Customers on Ground, tracking trends, and reporting any findings as necessary.
Additionally, you will oversee the implementation of the Qatar Airways OHS Manual and Policy throughout the Qatar Airways Group.
Specific Responsibilities for Senior People Safety & Health Officer
- Coordinate with QR Group outstation stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable national and/or state/regional OHS regulations.
- Participate in recommending changes to policies, processes, and working practices, as well as monitoring the evaluation and amendment of H&S policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with all legal and other applicable requirements.
- Facilitate the integration of QR OHS Manual standards and procedures into Qatar Airways Group operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory OHS obligations.
- Assist with staff and customer issue reports to verify that necessary steps are done to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure the successful development and implementation of programs within Qatar Airways to reduce accidents and injuries to Qatar Airways Group employees and passengers throughout the company.
- Participate in the investigation of incidents and accidents involving Qatar Airways Group employees and customers on ground.
- Assist the line manager with the formulation, implementation, and periodic review of OHS risk assessments (including fire risk assessments) for QR Group Outstation commercial facilities.
- Conduct health and safety inspections and audits at all QR Group Outstation business locations to detect possible hazards and verify compliance with ISO 45001 OHSMS requirements. Make recommendations for controls to the appropriate department for execution, and then follow up to ensure the controls are effective.
- Support, develop, implement, and review emergency procedures and action plans for QR Group Outstation commercial facilities, which must include fire evacuation protocols at the very least.
- Review and take action on the OHS evaluation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) requests for QR Group Outstation commercial locations, ensuring that all high-risk activities meet the relevant safety requirements for work-at-height, hot work, and so on, as per the applicable national and/or state/regional regulatory OHS requirements
Qualifications
About you
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Qualifications from a relevant college or university, as well as at least 5 years of job experience.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or its equivalent.
- ISO 45001 auditing qualifications, as well as any legally required local OHS qualifications.
- Strong understanding of national and international occupational health and safety rules and best practices.
- Possess a critical and analytical mindset with the goal of standardizing procedures related to operational safety.
- Strong interpersonal and investigative skills, as well as dispute resolution talents, are required, as is a keen sense of detail.
- Excellent data-analysis and presenting capabilities.
- Fluent in both spoken and written Native and English, with the ability to write clear, factual reports to a high standard.
- Proficiency in French and Arabic is very desirable.
- Ability to manage and plan projects.
