Job Role
In this position, you will collaborate closely with departments throughout the Group and our Strategic Business Units (SBUs). The Port Engineer, who is appointed by the Company, is responsible for guaranteeing that our vessels are fully qualified and operate at their best in order to fulfill the service obligations of our clients and consumers. Additionally, to ensure that our vessels are operated safely, remain in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with the requirements of the Classification Society and Flag State, and meet all necessary regulatory standards, we must work within any necessary commercial and budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating and managing the delivery of spare parts and vessel equipment.
- Providing technical advice and solutions to ensure that the boats are fully technical ready and performing optimally in satisfying the company’s service commitments.
- Taking the lead and providing technical skills in an emergency response situation.
- Promoting safety and safe working practices as a critical operational requirement.  Â
- Providing good communication across all levels of the organization to keep employees informed of critical operational/technical issues that affect vessel availability.
- Maintenance programmes and dry docking are planned, coordinated, and monitored.
- Maintaining adequate operational records.
- Inspecting the vessels on a regular basis for safety, environmental protection, and hygiene conformity with the International Safety Management Code.
- Assisting the crew with troubleshooting.
- Being continually aware of the vessel’s situation, maintenance status, and repair needs in the short, medium, and long term.
- Creating the annual technical department budget.
- Arranging for the resolution of flaws discovered during vetting, PSC inspections, Charterers inspections, P&I Club surveys, and so on.
What are we looking for?
- A degree from a maritime institution (Certificate of Competency STCW Regulation III/2). M.Sc. is an extra benefit.Â
- A minimum of 5 years of seagoing experience as an engineering officer, with at least two as head engineer on tankers.Â
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a Port Engineer with a shipping business or classification society.
- Effective decision-making and leadership skills.
- Ability to effectively manage, work, and interact with people from various ethnic backgrounds.Â
- Ability to manage many tasks and excellent organizational abilities.
- Highly motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to working outside of office hours.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Language competence, as well as strong writing and vocal communication skills.
