The Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) would like to extend an invitation to you to submit an application for the fourth cohort of its yearly transformative program.
The LMI Fellowship is a three-week, totally residential program created for enthusiastic Nigerians aged 21 to 35 who want to work in the legislature and the public sector. We prepare you to achieve meaningful change in Nigeria via extensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.
The goal is to cultivate the next generation of legislators and ethical leaders in the public sector who are well-equipped with the skills, knowledge, and competence necessary to implement responsive leadership in order to improve the delivery of public services and to create national cohesion.

The essence of the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) is highlighted by the fact that the youth play a remarkably important and necessary part in the process of developing a nation that is sustainable.
The Gbajabiamila Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders who will have a significant impact on the future of their respective nations as well as the remainder of the world.
Do you have a strong interest in the areas of public sector leadership, governance, policy draughting, public administration, international relations, and diplomacy?
Programme highlights:
- Learn about the legislative process and parliamentary history. Receive value-based leadership training and mentorship from experienced leaders. Explore internship and career opportunities.
- Join a new generation of visionary leaders influencing Nigeria’s democracy and development future.
Selection Criteria
- Citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
- Strong and demonstrable leadership and development skills with credible track record in service to community or society
- English fluency (oral and written) & deployment of creativity and innovation for practical and workable solutions
- Patriotic, visionary and passionate about Nigeria’s stability, growth and development with interest and vision for participating in the Nigerian legislature
- Willingness to commit to the values and full programme of the LMI
- Between ages 21 and 35
What You Will Learn in the Program
- The value of selfless and responsive service and understanding of public service as a duty and responsibility to be fulfilled with utmost honesty, diligence and patriotism.
- An understanding of Nigeria’s history in the context of our national vision, the trajectory of Nigeria’s constitution, Nigeria’s rich parliamentary history and applying lessons learnt towards strengthening the legislative process and the emergence of a new Nigeria.
- An understanding of the role of parliaments in nation building and the legislature as the anchor of democracy.
- An understanding of the culture of service, impact and sustained engagement for national development, empowered by a hands-on understanding of the rudiments of legislative processes for greater and sustainable impact.
- An understanding of the importance of a value-based, no-excuse leadership mentality with the competence for disciplined execution of programmes and projects.
- Learning social skills such as emotional intelligence are needed to assist the multi-religious, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic population of Nigeria to live together in justice, peace and prosperity
