About the 2025 Airtel Fellowship Program
Airtel Africa Foundation (the “Foundation”) is the charitable division of Airtel Africa plc, a prominent provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, operating across 14 countries in Africa.
Our mission is to advance Africa by promoting financial inclusion, education, environmental sustainability, and digital accessibility.
The foundation introduced the Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship program to assist young Africans from underprivileged backgrounds in pursuing higher education in STEM fields.
This initiative aligns with the foundation’s overarching objective of increasing the number of African youth with advanced technological expertise and cultivating the next generation of tech leaders from the continent.
The Foundation is collaborating with designated Universities to provide support to deserving African students who gain admission to a technology-oriented undergraduate program.
Fellowship Reach
In Nigeria, the fellowship will support at least 100 students per year.
Fellowship Coverage
- Fellowships are for the full duration of the Bachelor of Tech, Science and Engineering programs for 4- 5 years
Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility requirements for this fellowship are as follows:
- The Fellowship will only be available to students admitted to any of the seven participating public universities.
- The Foundation will include gender diversity in its selection criteria.
- The candidate shall not be the recipient of any other fellowship, scholarship, or award for the same reasons as those funded by the Airtel Africa Foundation.
- Only new entrants will be eligible. (100 level)
- To be eligible for this program, the candidate must demonstrate financial need.
- Scored at least 230 in JAMB.
- Possess 5 credits, including English and Mathematics, at one sitting.
- Applicants must have JAMB results and an admission letter, a school ID card, and a WAEC certificate/result to be shortlisted.
Participating Universities
The program is offered to students from the following seven Nigerian public universities:
- University of Lagos (UNILAG)
- University of Nigeria (UNN)
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)
- University of Benin (UNIBEN) Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
- University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Tai Solarin University of Education (TASEUD)
Eligible courses
Eligible courses include information technology, computer science, systems engineering, data science, software engineering, library science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, telecommunication engineering, and other ICT-related subjects.
What does the scholarship cover?
The scholarship provides full academic support, including coverage for tuition, study materials, accommodation assistance, and a modest stipend. Exact disbursement details will be communicated directly to successful applicants.

4. Applicants should upload scanned copies of the following as part of the application:
- Recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant in JPEG format, not more than 200kilobytes;
- University Admission Letter;
- Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) Result;
- O’ Level Result(s); and ‘A’ Level /OND /NCE Result(s) as applicable;
