About the Commonwealth Distance Learning Master’s Scholarships
The Commonwealth Distance Learning program is one of three Master’s programmes offered by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) of the United Kingdom administers the UK government’s scholarship programme, which is guided by international development objectives. It operates within the context of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and provides a visible indication of the UK’s continuous commitment to the
The CSC’s work combines sustainable development with UK national interest by attracting individuals with exceptional talent and identifiable potential from all backgrounds and supporting them to become leaders and innovators in their home countries, as well as providing opportunities for international partnerships and collaboration.
Purpose: To support Commonwealth countries’ development requirements by training competent and qualified people in important development sectors.
Intended beneficiaries:
High-quality postgraduate students from least developed and middle-income countries (including fragile and conflict affected states) who wish to access training not available in their home countries, who wish or need to remain in their home country while they study, and who have the potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire.
Program Duration:
Up to six years. The scholarships are funded on an ongoing basis, due to the modular nature of the courses.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
- Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country.
- By September 2026, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.
- Be unable to afford to study the programme without this scholarship.
- Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.
Application process:
UK universities bid for scholarships for specific courses. Applications are made via successful universities, which make the initial selection of candidates, who are subsequently approved by the CSC.

Benefits of the Program
- A Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship covers tuition fees and study grants where required. Other scholarships, awards, or bursaries that cover the same costs may not be held concurrently.
Method of Application
The scholarships are for studies starting in September/October 2026.
