Job Description

As part of these responsibilities, the post holder will assist in the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of child safety, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we conduct our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis.

The post holder should report and respond to interventions in accordance with the position-related responsibilities outlined in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Job Role

The Education Assistant will be a member of the Education Team. He/she will help the Education team with initiatives such as enrollment, back-to-learning campaigns, community involvement with SBMCs, and other responsibilities related to school enrollment and retention. S/he will also help to ensure accountability in supported communities by sharing information, encouraging involvement, and providing effective feedback and response procedures.

Main Responsibilities

Implement delegated reaching out of school projects in accordance with plans, strategies, and funder requirements, while maintaining high technical quality.
Ensure the timely acquisition and distribution of materials and equipment in accordance with SCI rules and procedures; ensure the accuracy of portfolio inventory (assets, supplies, materials).
Contribute to assessments (baseline, midline, and endline; needs, market)
Ensure accurate project documentation, including collecting monitoring data and tracking progress on output metrics; use data to contribute to reports as needed by management.
Foster relationships with communities and leaders to guarantee buy-in and Do No Harm.
Supervise and manage instructors, including facilitating teacher training.
Provide assistance with youth/adolescent programming, such as life skills, basic literacy/numeracy, and alternative/accelerated learning.
Support identifying needs and developing and facilitating training programs for teachers, PTAs, and SBMCs.
Facilitate the recruitment of volunteer teachers and learning facilitators for the initiative.
Contribute to the proposal and strategy development by providing input on needs and gaps.
Any other tasks related to the position as directed by the line manager.
Contribute to the development of timely and high-quality progress and end-of-project narrative and financial reports that adhere to the donor’s reporting schedule and formats.
Participate in quarterly follow-up and progress review meetings to address critical performance issues identified in the reports.
Ensure that the program experience is represented and acknowledged in stakeholder meetings, workshops, donor events, and other engagements.
Create and maintain open lines of communication with partners and key stakeholders at all levels.
Effectively manage project design and research procedures, including assessments, baseline and evaluation studies, while implementing a functional Activity Tracking Table.
Ensure that the project’s quality benchmarks are followed.
Collecting and resolving complaints and feedback in close collaboration with the MEAL team and project officers.
Regularly monitor project results, document case studies, lessons learned, noteworthy changes, and best practices, and coordinate learning and reflection meetings/sessions.
Ensure that an adequate program/project monitoring and evaluation system is in place.
Monitor program/project operations to ensure quality, timeliness, and compliance with both Country Office and international Save the Children policies and procedures.

Work closely with the Education Officer and Education Coordinator to guarantee day-to-day implementation planning, budget updates, implementation, monitoring, documentation, and reporting for the ROOSC project.
Ensure timely execution and budget performance in accordance with the project’s plans and budgets.
Effectively support instructors in providing proper service delivery in accordance with ROOSC Project design and Save the Children International planning guidelines, as well as ensuring compliance with agreed-upon work plans and the realization of program objectives and targets in accordance with funding proposals.
Ensure that the ROOSC Project is implemented according to the desired standards and on time.
Maintain a high level of transparency and accountability during programme execution while maintaining the integrity and timeliness of activities in order to accomplish programme objectives, comply with donors, and follow Save the Children rules.
Regular operational and implementation updates on project progress and difficulties are provided to enable management to intervene and take corrective action on time.

Qualifications and Experience for Education Assistant at Save the Children Nigeria

Essential

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree/higher national diploma in education or other comparable disciplines of study.
It is desirable to have at least two years of experience working in program implementation for a national or international NGO that uses partnership approaches.
Experience in strategic thinking and planning skills, including the ability to identify priorities, create achievable goals, and assess progress.
Experience working on TaRL and with Out of School Children (OOSC) with local partners, Local Governments, and State Authorities in Northwest Nigeria is advantageous.
Strong analytical and strategic planning abilities.
Ability to build and maintain positive collegial relationships while also performing effectively as a team member.
Willingness to go and labor in remote regions, sometimes under difficult conditions.
Computer literacy and great documentation abilities are essential.
Availability and readiness to work extra hours during humanitarian operations.
Highly developed cultural awareness and capacity to operate well in an international context with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to intervene in crisis management or troubleshooting as needed.
