About Program/Project
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), with funding from the Mastercard Foundation (MCF), is conducting a longitudinal juvenile cohort research in northern Nigeria.
The goal is to gain a better understanding of the livelihood trajectories of young men and young women in rural areas, how these experiences intersect with other domains (e.g., family formation, health, community/civic engagement), and the barriers, opportunities, and risks that young women and young men face.
The primary role of the enumerators will be to conduct interviews and gather high-quality data from participating houses and people.
The enumerator will collaborate closely with the IFPRI research team and stakeholders from the project communities.
Responsibilities of Field Enumerator
- Attend a one-week data gathering training and provide feedback.
- Get acquainted with the data gathering tools and study instructions.
- Conduct a listing exercise of families and persons between the ages of 15 and 35 in the specified communities.
- Conduct interviews with only selected individuals and houses in the neighbourhoods.
- Re-visit respondents who were unable to be located on previous trips.
- Inform the Field Supervisor and/or project core team about the progress and issues discovered during field activities, and identify acceptable solutions.
- When at work, dress modestly and culturally suitable.
- Follow IFPRI’s data collection policies to maintain confidentiality and quality. Store and handle all devices and equipment safely.
Requirements for Field Enumerator for Data Collection at IFDC
- Qualifications (HND, B.Sc., M.Sc.) in the subjects of economics, agriculture, development, sociology, development studies, or statistics;
- Proven experience with mobile devices for data gathering (SurveyCTO, ODK, Kobo Collect);
- Experience conducting quantitative surveys in the northern region of Nigeria.
- Residents from Adamawa, Kano, Jigawa, and Sokoto states are desired.
- Strong command of English and Hausa.
- Reporting and Working Relationships
Enumerators must report to the IFPRI’s designated field supervisor.
