Job Overview
- The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is in charge of ensuring that Dangote Cement Transport’s transportation activities comply with all applicable health and safety standards. Â
- The officer’s responsibilities include devising, administering, and enforcing safety procedures designed specifically for transportation activities.
Responsibilities
- Create and administer health and safety rules and procedures for transportation operations.
- Conduct frequent inspections and audits to ensure compliance with local and federal safety laws.
- Provide transportation staff with training and instruction on safe practices, emergency procedures, and equipment functioning.
- Evaluate hazards and execute mitigation solutions for transportation operations.
- Investigate accidents and occurrences to identify the underlying causes and offer corrective steps.
- Maintain safety records and compile reports on transportation safety performance.
- Coordinate with local authorities and regulatory agencies on transportation safety requirements.
- Serve as a liaison for safety concerns regarding the transportation fleet and drivers.
- Assess the effectiveness of current safety programs and make recommendations for changes.
- Participate in safety meetings and provide pertinent safety data and insights with management.
Requirements for Health and Safety Officer at Dangote Industries Limited
- B.Sc. in safety management, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
- A minimum of three years of experience in a safety function in the transportation or logistics industries.
- Graduate in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field, ideally in science or engineering.
- A professional certificate or diploma in fire, safety, health, or environmental management from a recognised institution is an added advantage, such as NEBOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6.
- Awareness of Fleet Safety Management
- Expertise in transportation-related health and safety standards.
Skills and Behaviors:
- Knowledge of training, mentoring, and development techniques
- Ability to recognise and resolve possible threats requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to speak Hausa is an extra advantage.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to create effective training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
