What is InnovateNaija Challenge
The Innovate Naija Challenge is meant to get people all around Nigeria excited and involved online by finding, empowering, and supporting creative young people. Participants will show off their innovations or ideas in creative video entries for a chance to win financing. There will be 37 winners from all throughout the country.
The challenge’s goal is to spark creativity and bring new life to Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. It does this by leveraging social media to start a lively, high-energy movement that honours local talent and originality.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a citizen of Nigeria.
- Must currently reside in Nigeria (temporary visitors or students abroad are ineligible).
- Open to teenagers ages 15 to 40.
- Innovative products must be in one of the following stages: prototype or fully developed. Products that are still in the idea stage are not eligible for the application.
- Innovative items must be in the scientific, engineering, and manufacturing sectors.
- The applicant or team must be the source of the original innovation.
- Innovation must address a local issue or enhance community life.
- Applicants may submit ideas in English or the local language, including translation (if available).
- Individuals and teams can apply. In teams, one member must be identified as the principal contact.
- Applicants must be emerging talents and grassroots inventors, not fully-funded startups.
- Low-tech and no-tech solutions are appreciated! Tech-savvy is desirable but not needed.
- Innovation must be appropriate or adaptable to the Nigerian setting.
- Each applicant/team may submit just one innovation.
- Each applicant/team must have at least one Instagram handle/account.

- Young Nigerian innovators within the ages of 15-40 who have designed products and solutions within the science, engineering and manufacturing sector. Individuals passionate about tech, creativity and providing solutions to real world challenges including from the grassroots.
