About the Basic Military Training Course
The Basic Military training Course is a short period of instruction for recruits to become airmen and airwomen, typically lasting no more than six months. It is primarily intended for individuals with a Secondary School Certificate, National Diploma Certificate, NABTEB, RN/RM/NCE, City & Guild Certificate, or Trade Test Certificate.
The BMTC is made up of non-tradesmen/women aged 18 to 22, as well as tradesmen/women aged 18 to 25 years.
Eligibility Criteria & Requirements
In order to avoid being disqualified, you must ensure that you meet all of the following requirements:
Conduct and Citizenship
- The applicant must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
- It is required that you do not have any criminal convictions from a court of law.
- In accordance with the norms of the NAF, you must be in good physical, mental, and medical health.
Age, height, and marital status
- Applicants that are male must be at least 1.66 meters tall.
- Applicants who are female must be at least 1.63 meters tall.
- The age range for non-tradesmen and non-tradeswomen is between 18 and 22 years old (by the 28th of February, 2026).
- The maximum age limit for tradesmen and tradeswomen is 25 years, with the exception of some positions, such as assistant chaplains and drivers, where the maximum age limit may be 28 years.
- It is required that applicants be single or unmarried.
Educational & Professional Qualifications
Non‑Tradesmen / Non‑Tradeswomen:
- It is required that you have earned a minimum of five credits, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two separate sittings from WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB, or an equivalent institution.
- presentation of transcripts /testimonies from secondary school.
Tradesmen / Tradeswomen:
- A minimum of five credits, including English and mathematics, in no more than two separate sittings.
- An ND, NCE, or an approved trade certificate is required to be held.
- Drivers are required to possess a current and valid driver’s license as well as a necessary trade test certificate.
- Sportsmen / sportswomen applicants must present evidence of their sporting achievements (certificates, medals).
Application Procedures and Documents Required

- You can access the official website by going to nafrecruitment.airforce.mil.ng while the window of opportunity is open.
- Fill out the online application form, making sure to provide accurate information about yourself, your education, and your contact information.
- After submitting the relevant forms, print them out:
- Print required forms after submission:
- Acknowledgment Slip
- Parent / Guardian Consent Form
- Local Government Attestation Form (LGA form)
- Get the forms signed / attested by appropriate authorities:
- A military officer (rank not below Wing Commander) or equivalent
- A police officer (CSP or higher) or higher authority
- Local Government Chairman / Secretary or Magistrate from your state of origin
- Attach passport photo & ID (Driver’s Licence, National ID, or International Passport) with the signed LGA Form.
- Submit original credentials if shortlisted: birth certificate, educational certificates, trade certificates, indigeneship certificate, etc.
- Await shortlist & further instructions (tests, screening) via the portal or public announcements.
Make sure you submit only once — multiple applications lead to disqualification.

Selection Process: What to Expect
Once your application is submitted and deemed eligible, you will go through several stages:
- Shortlisting: based on meeting eligibility and completeness of documentation.
- Aptitude / General test: a zonal aptitude test will be conducted for shortlisted candidates (date will be communicated).
- Medical & Physical Fitness Screening: Candidates must pass medical and physical exams per NAF standards.
- Selection Board Interview: interviews by panels to assess character, competence, and suitability.
- Final Offer / Training Enrollment: successful candidates will be offered spots and enrolled into the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC).
