About National Universities Commission (NUC)
The National Universities Commission was set up in 1962 to run and supervise the growth and development of Nigeria’s university system. It was made since there were more and more universities in Nigeria when the country became independent in 1960. Before the NUC was created, universities were mostly run by the colonial system. There was a need for a single organization to set standards and oversee higher education in the country.
The NUC’s job was to make sure that Nigerian universities followed high standards of academic and administrative behavior. Over time, the NUC has changed and grown to become an important part of Nigeria’s higher education system.

Requirements for Senior Officer (CONTISS 9):
- A doctoral degree in a discipline that is related to the Commission’s mandate
- Or, alternatively, a master’s degree in addition to a minimum of four years of relevant experience
- Or a first degree in addition to at least six years of experience in a related field
