About 2025 AIMS And Google Deepmind Scholarship For Africans
The 2025 AIMS and Google DeepMind Scholarship for Africans provides a fully financed opportunity for African students to pursue postgraduate studies in artificial intelligence (AI) and related subjects.
This effort, a cooperation between Google DeepMind and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), seeks to equip Africa’s future generation of artificial intelligence experts.

Prerequisites for the Google Deepmind Scholarship
To be eligible to apply to the AI for Science program, you must:
- be a resident of Africa at the time of application*.
- be a citizen of any African country.
- Have earned a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honors year by August 2025 (or December 2025 for southern African applicants; see FAQ),
- not have received a previous scholarship to study at an AIMS center.
- Your undergraduate degree could be in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any other field with a significant computational and mathematical component.
- Enrolling as a Master’s degree student in South Africa requires the completion of either a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree plus an additional honours year. In the French LMD (licence-master-doctoral) system, the equivalent is an M1 year.
- The residence requirement does not apply to students who have been displaced by conflict.

The online application has a dozen brief math questions and one coding issue. It is not an exam, but the questions help the selection panel understand how you handle challenges. A full application cannot be completed at the last minute, so we encourage prospective Google DeepMind Scholars at AIMS South Africa to apply early!
Interviews
- The final round consists of short online interviews in May 2025.

- Each Google DeepMind Scholar becomes part of a network of future AI professionals. Scholars will receive:
- A scholarship to fully pay their postgraduate studies at a partner university (up to two years)
- Stipend to cover housing and living expenses.
