Duties and Responsibilities

We are searching for enthusiastic interns to support our work, either part-time or full-time, in any of the following areas:

Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems.

  • Encourage the establishment of local digital ecosystems to ensure a rights-based and inclusive approach to digital development inside and beyond countries.
  • Support the implementation of inclusive, equitable, and secure digital and data public infrastructure through a whole-of-society transformation approach to tech layers, including the systemic role of digital public goods, robust accountability in the governance frameworks around digital public goods, and community engagement to catalyse innovation and safeguards of digital public infrastructures.
  • Support for primary research and/or content evaluation on digital themes such as inclusive connectivity, digital inclusion, ethical technology, artificial intelligence, and so on.
  • Knowledge management involves gathering and disseminating digital-related thinking pieces produced throughout the organisation.
  • Internal coordination on thought leadership works with other UNDP groups, and provides substantial comments as needed.
  • Support advocacy by creating digestible material for social media assets, blogs, talking points, briefing notes, and so on, in close conjunction with the communications team.

Digital Transformation: Country Office Support & Capacity Building:

We are searching for enthusiastic interns to support our work, either part-time or full-time, in any of the following areas:

 Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems.

Digital Transformation: UNDP Digital Strategy Development & Implementation:

  • Support UNDP’s global thought and practice leadership, including its engagement in various alliances and networks, by conducting research on key digital topics, analysing information, and synthesising it into a clear summary for the Chief Digital Officer and other UNDP senior leadership.
  • Support the management, coordination, and content maintenance of the UNDP’s digital guides webpage in collaboration with appropriate UNDP stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design of UNDP’s digital capacity footprint and support elements of the following implementation and business processes.
  • Provide front-office support to the Chief Digital Officer and his Special Assistant by strategically managing the Chief Digital Officer’s internal and external engagements.  Support the draughting of speeches and briefs on UNDP’s digital support to governments for the Chief Digital Officer as needed.
  • Analyze the progress of UNDP’s Digital Strategy implementation through rigorous analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, and evaluate monitoring and reporting processes within the Chief Digital Office, and propose improvements in their design and implementation processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Business Operations (People, Procurement, Finance, and Internal Processes):

  • Assist the Operations Unit in performing tasks and tracking progress. Support the execution, monitoring, and reporting of Resourcing Plans. Identify bottlenecks and recommend solutions.
  • Assist the Operations and Program Units with the organisation of meetings, workshops, travel, and other such events.
  • Assist the Chief Digital Office team to ensure compliance with procurement and recruitment policies.
  • Draft and update the team’s best practices for developing and driving new projects to improve operations.
  • Identify inefficiencies, think strategically, and create practical solutions to overcome obstacles and increase production.

Thought Leadership, Engagement, Partnerships, and Strategic Communications:

  • Research prospective new partners, such as technology firms, foundations, non-profits, alliances, etc., to assist find new prospects and areas of collaboration.
  • Support strategic communications, partner outreach and engagement, and eventual relationship development, including the creation of idea notes, communications materials, proposals, pitch decks, project documents, memorandums of understanding (MoUs), outreach materials, and other documentation.
  • Encourage participation in global, multilateral, and UN interagency processes, such as by draughting statements and speeches, attending UN meetings, and assisting with event planning.
  • Support UNDP’s digital positioning and thought leadership, especially by doing research, accumulating information, and analysing major technology and digital challenges, particularly those connected to digital development, transformation, and capacity building.
  • Support strategic communications by creating interesting material for channels such as social media, newsletters, blogs, and internal UNDP platforms.
  • Assist with researching and mapping important media outlets, potential content partners, and digital and technology trends. 

Provide product design, build, and management services, including AI tools.

  • Support the design of digital goods such as apps, platforms, web apps, and AI technologies that will support UNDP’s work in nations, collaborating with ‘client’ teams to define success and product specifications.
  • Support UNDP theme teams in exploring and writing proposals for new digital products.
  • Support the development of digital goods, including collaboration with software developers, client teams, and product managers.
  • Conduct user testing and enhancement on digital products.
  • Support the deployment of digital goods in nations by collaborating with local implementation teams and UNDP theme teams to ensure quality delivery and results.

UNDP Transformation and Change Management:

  • Assist the management of UNDP Communities of Practice in facilitating knowledge exchange and skill development.
  • Assist in monitoring and analysing progress on UNDP’s Digital Transformation programs.
  • Contribute to corporate communications by creating emails, meeting invitations, and updating the knowledge database.
  • Contribute to knowledge products, external digital initiatives, and information-sharing mechanisms to help UNDP programs incorporate digital tools.

Required skills and experience.

  • Candidates must fulfil one of the following educational requirements:
  • Enrol in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (undergraduate; minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent); or
  • Have a university degree (first, second, equivalent, or higher) and, if accepted, must begin the internship within one year following graduation.
  • Interest/experience in any of the aforementioned workstreams is preferred.
