Key Responsibilities
Plan and implement HSE policies and programs.
- Evaluate current policies and processes.
- Provide safety advice and training to employees.
- Conduct and record frequent safety checks and inspections.
- Compile weekly and monthly HSE statistics reports.
- Assist in implementing and updating the health, safety, and environmental strategy.
- Assess risks and implement controls (e.g., safe work procedures, Job Safety Analysis).
Coordinate toolbox talks.
- Coordinate safety committee activities.
- Issue and file Permit-To-Work for non-routine or hazardous processes.
- Enforce preventative measures.
- Ensure all staff are following rules and regulations.
- Investigate and document occurrences, accidents, complaints, and illnesses.
- Collect and analyze HSE statistics.
- Inspect buildings and personnel for faults or non-conformities (e.g., failure to use protective equipment).
- Generate and present reports on accidents and infractions, identifying reasons.Â
- Record and investigate accidents and events; conduct Root Cause Analysis for HSE issues.
- Offer HSE induction, site-specific and company-wide training for health, safety, and the environment.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure effective onboarding of new and existing workers based on needs.
- Coordinate first aid activities as needed.
- Propose prompt solution of HSE problems and assess effectiveness of recommended corrective action plans.
- Conduct HSE audits as scheduled.
Other responsibilities as given by the HSE Manager.
Requirements
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
Willing to travel across the country.
- Capable of working without supervision.
- NEBOSH IGC or equivalent
- At least two years of experience in occupational health and safety management.
- Expertise in incident investigation, workplace inspection, and job hazard assessments.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Thorough understanding of legislation (e.g., OSHA/EPA, Nigeria Factory Act (2004)) and processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
