Benue state is known as the “Food Basket of the Nation”. For many years this has been the case, this state is developing rapidly and no sector shows this better than the manufacturing sector.

Growth of Manufacturing in Benue State
The present administration of Benue State has promoted the interest of manufacturing and other industries. Before now, the major industries in Benue State were agro-based. However, with improved road networks and other infrastructural facilities, many companies have moved to Benue State to process agricultural products.
Some of the products manufactured include garri, fruit juice, and instant noodles. Other industries include the textile industries and the oil and gas industries.
The development plan for Benue State 2025-2034 identifies the promotion of industrialization as a key component of its development agenda.

Bensono Fruits Processing Company Limited (Sono Group)
Bensono Plant The Bensono Concentrate Plant, located in the Industrial Layout of Makurdi, is one of the largest and most advanced concentrate plants in West Africa. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the plant with a processing capacity of 40,000 metric tons per day.
The plant is a joint venture between the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) and SONO Group.
As a by-product of the processing, the plant makes organic fertilizer, thus ensuring no waste is generated in the process.
Benfruits Juice Factory
Benfruits Juice Factory Benfruits is a subsidiary of BIPC charged with the responsibility of processing fruits of Benue state into various products.
With post-harvest losses estimated at over 30% among fruit farmers in the state, test runs have been conducted and the plant is ready to commence large scale production of fruit concentrates.
The governor of Benue state has directed that all oranges be processed, and that unprocessed oranges should no longer leave the state.
Benval Juice Factory
Benval Juice Factory produces finished juice products and operates alongside the Bensono and Benfruits facilities within the Makurdi Industrial Layout
The factory was built by BIPC and represents a critical component of the state’s value-added agro-processing chain.
Taraku Mills Limited
Taraku Mills is a fully integrated agro-allied processing company located in Taraku, Gwer East Local Government Area. The facility, valued at over N70 billion, operates separate maize and feed mill divisions alongside an oil processing division.
After years of inactivity, the mill is undergoing significant rehabilitation with the support of Egyptian partners, including WADI AL AKHDAR OIL MILLS. The first phase of rehabilitation has exceeded 80% completion, with Golden Oil production expected to commence before the Yuletide season.
The state government has urged farmers to increase cultivation of soybeans, groundnuts, and maize to provide the raw materials needed for full-scale production.
Pure Biotech Company Limited

Pure Biotech Company Limited is an ethanol manufacturing firm located along Gboko Road, Makurdi.
The company uses cassava as its primary feedstock to produce fuel and industrial ethanol for edible, medicinal, and industrial applications.
The plant requires approximately 300–500 tonnes per day of fresh and dry cassava to sustain operations.
Pure Biotech has also invested N7.5 billion in a state-of-the-art Effluent Treatment Plant to address environmental concerns and ensure sustainable production practices.
Beverage and Brewery Companies
Food Basket Brewery (FBB)
The Food Basket Brewery, a BIPC’s state-owned industrial project, was built in 2025. The N15 billion brewery is located on about 1.2 hectares of land along the Makurdi–Gboko Road and produces beers and other beverages including Zeva Premium Lager Beer and Oyi Bitters.
The brewery has a production capacity of 10,000 crates per day and it is well positioned to explore the projected N1 billion monthly beer consumption market in Benue State.
The brewery will be able to produce up to 1,500 direct and indirect jobs once fully operational.
The plant uses Chinese machine makers to manage and service the production equipment, and roughly 40 local Benue youths are being trained in the maintenance department.
The brewery runs on a two shift arrangement and provides transport and lunch for the workers.

Dangote Cement Gboko Plant (Benue Cement Plant)
Dangote Cement Gboko Plant (Benue Cement Plant) is an integrated cement plant situated in Gboko, Benue State.
The factory started operations in 2007 and is a 100% owned subsidiary of Dangote Cement PLC. It has a cement capacity of 4.00 million metric tons per annum which is still the largest single manufacturing operation in the state by production volume .
Igumale Cement Plant
The Igumale Cement Factory in Ado Local Government Area is a huge chance for Benue State to resuscitate its industrial sector.
The $80 million cement project, established in 2001 under a 7-year Build, Operate and Transfer contract with the Chinese government, stopped after 2017.
In 2026 the state government directed the plant to resume work immediately and re-invited Zhengzhou Cangxi Industry and Commerce Development Company Ltd to return and complete the plant.
Otukpo Burnt Bricks Plant
The Otukpo Burnt Bricks Plant plant was set up in the 1980s, under the late Governor Aper Aku, and is being rehabilitated as part of the BIPC’s broader aim to restore abandoned industries. “The delegation in charge of the revival has ordered immediate commencement of rehabilitation works at the factory.

The analysis found that main drivers of industrial decline were policy inconsistency, lack of continuity in government programs, collapse of state owned firms, weak private sector investment, bad infrastructure and broken value chains.
The strategy of revival is based on restoration of abandoned industries, development of industrial clusters and development of value chains around agriculture.

The Benue State growth Plan provides for the establishment of three Export Processing Zones (EPZs) for the promotion of the growth of export-oriented sectors in garment manufacturing and agro-processing to stimulate regional and worldwide trade.
