Job Description

Sightsavers runs initiatives in more than 30 African and South Asian countries to reduce preventable blindness and support the rights of persons with disabilities.

About the role

  • The SARMAAN Programme Manager will be in charge of the project’s strategic and programmatic management, ensuring that it is carried out successfully in accordance with organizational and donor standards.  
  • This function entails adhering to internal systems and processes, developing strategic programs, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing state partners to improve program coherence.  
  • Additionally, the Programme Manager will work with the Sightsavers NTD Directorate and the Programme Delivery Unit.

Responsibilities of Programme Manager at Sightsavers

  • Lead strategic planning processes that fit with organizational and donor strategies.
  • Manage project implementation to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Assist the team in adopting appropriate quality assurance tools.
  • Monitor project progress and rapidly identify, address, or escalate any concerns or obstacles.
  • Identify emerging risks, lead risk analysis, and develop mitigation plans with assistance from the CD and other elements of the organization.
  • Establish and sustain ties with partner organizations, donors, other implementing partners, and important stakeholders.
  • Facilitate effective and timely communication, information sharing, and fruitful engagement with stakeholders.
  • Attend strategic meetings at the national and consortium levels, and keep up with important changes.
  • Supervise budgeting and spending to ensure value for money.
  • Ensure compliance with grant contractual provisions, such as financial requirements and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of reports to partners and stakeholders.
  • Encourage collaborative practices and cross-learning among other implementing partners in the Consortium.
  • Coordinate financial and program functions to ensure efficient operations, and take corrective steps as needed.
  • Ensure budget holders actively monitor and analyze budgets, and handle issues swiftly.
  • Confirm that partner expenditure fits with approved predictions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • As Programme Manager, you will be in charge of the SARMAAN project’s strategic and programmatic management, ensuring that it is implemented successfully in accordance with organizational and donor standards.  
  • You will oversee project delivery, assist the team in using quality assurance tools, and monitor progress, swiftly addressing any issues that arise.  
  • Your responsibilities include identifying and reducing risks, maintaining connections with partners, donors, and stakeholders, and ensuring clear communication.

Jobholder Requirements

Essential

  • Experienced medical doctor with expertise in public health, including the Polio platform. Demonstrates leadership and teamwork skills while valuing diversity.
  • Strong ability to nurture, mentor, and empower employees at all levels.
  • Proven ability to make successful judgments across a broad variety of topics, analyze progress, identify gaps, and implement necessary modifications for maximum results.
  • Ability to detect programmatic concerns that require immediate attention, prioritize, and take appropriate action.
  • Result-oriented with a demonstrated track record of impact at scale.
  • Excellent negotiating and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new technology and handle significant expenditures.
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant topics connected to Sightsavers’ themes (NTDs, eye health, disability, and social inclusion), or equivalent
  • Extensive expertise in an INGO/NGO context, with a considerable background in senior management/leadership positions and a proven track record of complicated program management at the country level.
  • Understanding of project management, budget creation and monitoring, and resource management

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of advocacy, research, partnership development, and understanding of the Polio Platform and Nigerian Health System
