Details About The AFREXIMBANK Internship Program for African Students
The African Export-Import Bank, or Afreximbank, is a multilateral financial institution that was set up to help finance and promote trade within and between African countries. African states, private and institutional investors in Africa, and private and institutional investors from outside of Africa are all shareholders.
Make-IT in Africa is in charge of making the AFREXIMBANK Internship Program for African Students possible.
Make-IT in Africa builds a strong base for innovation by giving African Innovation Ecosystems more power. They support political partners, startups, and people who help innovation to connect, share, and scale digital solutions. The goal is to get these innovation ecosystems ready for the future.
AFREXIMBANK Internship Program Requirements:
The programme is open to students who are :
- Students with proven enrollment in full time undergraduate or post graduate study programmes in a recognised institution of learning in the year of the internship are preferred. The Bank will be especially interested in candidates whose field of study is in the following fields: economics, business administration, finance, accounting, social sciences, statistics, law or related fields;
- Nationals of the Bank’s member states;
- Fluency in English or French and a working knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese will be an added advantage; and
- Candidates must be aged between 20 and 32 in the year in which they apply for the internship;
- Any other applicants as may be approved by the President;
- Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible to participate in this programme.
Duration and Reward
During their time in the internship program, interns are expected to assume responsibility for their own maintenance, which includes financial support for housing, meals, transportation, clothing, medical care, and group personal accident insurance.
On the other hand, the Bank will provide the following to successful interns on a free-of-charge basis:
- By the Bank’s travel policy, covering fair return fare transport charges to their internship site using the most cost-effective and direct route from their educational institution before the beginning of their internship;
- To assist in covering the costs of living, a monthly stipend of USD 800 that is exempt from taxation and is paid out at the end of each month;
- Accommodation in a hotel that has been selected by the Bank (only bed and breakfast) for one week during the induction period, upon arrival at the internship site for interns, based on their previous location;
- The transfer to the hotel upon arrival and the transfer back to the hotel upon departure after a successful internship program; and
- If it is necessary, a visa that is applicable for the duration of the internship program.
Required Documents
Applicants are expected to submit the following documents in addition to filling out an online internship application form:
- Letter of application;
- copy of their current CV;
- copy of valid passport ;
- certified copies of relevant academic certificates;
- Recommendation for internship from the institution of learning that they are attending. This should include the proposed period of internship up to a maximum of six months;
- Short Statement of Intent (maximum of 1 A4 page) indicating what they expect to gain out of the internship programme.
Application Process and Venue For Internship Program
Those who are interested and qualified should use the link below to apply;
- Unless the President says otherwise, the Bank can only hire two candidates each season for four interns annually. Only successful candidates would be contacted.
- If a candidate is chosen, they will have two weeks to accept a conditional offer from the Bank. If they don’t, the offer will expire. During this time, they must prove that they have medical insurance and that the group personal accident cover is valid in Egypt (or where their internship is located). The offer will be automatically withdrawn if this isn’t given before the job starts.
- The first month of each internship season is when interns are supposed to begin their work.
- When they start, interns undergo the Bank’s normal induction process. They will then be assigned to a primary department, and the head of that department will choose a mentor to work with during their internship. However, while interning, they will be moved around the Bank’s different departments as their mentor and head of department see fit.
- Candidates will have to write a report on what they learned and how they plan to use it to improve trade within and between African countries at the end of the internship.
