About the UBA National Essay Competition 2024
The UBA Foundation’s education initiative, which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition among secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa, is responsible for organizing the National Essay Competition on an annual basis. The competition is aimed at senior secondary students in Nigeria.

Application Requirements
To be considered eligible for the UBA National Essay Competition 2004, all applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
- Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student
- Complete contact information
- Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed)
- Upload a recent passport photograph
- Upload a scanned copy of Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport
Benefits and Rewards of the UBA National Essay Competition 2024
- Winner – N7.5 million educational grant to any African University
- 1st Runner-Up – N5 million educational grant to any African University
- 2nd Runner-Up – N3.5 million educational grant to any African University
Also, the best 75 essays that qualify for the regional test will get N75,000 each.

Selection Procedure for the UBA National Essay Competition 2024
Entries for the competition will be assessed by a renowned team of judges consisting of professors from reputable Nigerian universities, who will then select 75 essays for further consideration.
Following that, the 75 shortlisted participants will take a regional test (North, South, East, and West) and submit a supervised essay. You will be asked to select your chosen region when filling out this form.
Twenty finalists will be chosen from the 75 to participate in the third and final round, which will take place at the UBA Head Office in Lagos. The top three essays will be picked as the competition’s winners.
