With future development in mind, the Centre will provide comprehensive oncology, haematology, cardiology, and general healthcare services across the continent. 

With the help of international collaborators, we will build a 500-bed hospital that will be gradually opened over the course of six years.

Job Purpose

It is the job of the Materials Management Officer to make sure that all of the health service’s materials are managed efficiently and effectively. In order to ensure that patients receive high-quality healthcare, the Materials Management Officer is responsible for coordinating the acquisition, storage, distribution, and control of all necessary equipment, supplies, and medical supplies.

Core Responsibilities for Materials Management Officer at African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE)

Inventory Management:

  • Keep accurate records of all materials received, stored, and distributed.
  • Perform regular stock checks and reconcile inventory data.
  • Set up and maintain an effective inventory management system.
  • Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and shortages.
  • Optimize inventory levels to avoid stockouts and lower storage costs.

Warehousing & Logistics:

  • Oversee that materials are properly stored and handled in compliance with storage rules and best practices.
  • Manage the warehouse and keep it clean, organized, and safe.
  • Coordinate the timely and efficient distribution of materials to different departments and facilities.
  • Manage the transportation and logistics of materials to and from multiple destinations.
  • Ensure that any expired, damaged, or obsolete materials are properly disposed of.

Quality Control & Assurance:

  • Check the quality and integrity of all materials supplied.
  • Perform quality inspections on arriving supplies to ensure they satisfy specifications and standards.
  • Investigate and address quality concerns with suppliers.
  • Implement quality control techniques to reduce waste and material losses.

Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Address supplier difficulties and conflicts effectively.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Assist in creating the annual materials budget.
  • Material expenditures should be monitored to verify that budget limits are met.
  • Identify and implement cost-cutting strategies.
  • Track and analyze material expenses to discover potential cost savings.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable procurement and inventory management legislation and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate frequent reports on material management activities.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as needed.

Qualifications for Materials Management Officer at African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE)

Educational Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • A master’s degree in a similar discipline is an added benefit.

Professional Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications in supply chain management, procurement, or logistics, such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), are advantageous.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-4 years of developing experience as a procurement professional.
  • Excellent track record of developing and maintaining good connections with suppliers, particularly in the medical business.

Knowledge requirements

  • A thorough understanding of the healthcare industry, including medical devices, medications, and laboratory supplies.
  • Understanding of inventory management techniques (such as ABC analysis and EOQ).
  • Knowledge of quality control and assurance principles.
  • In-depth understanding of procurement principles and processes.

Skill requirements

  • Strong negotiating abilities are required to obtain advantageous terms and conditions from suppliers.
  • Proficient in detecting and reducing supply chain risks such as supplier failures, quality difficulties, and shortages.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with inventory management software and systems.
