LBSL is the largest public transit operator in Lagos State, with a fleet of over 300 buses that service more than 20 routes throughout all divisions of Lagos.

LBSL is in a position to create a highly competitive space in the transportation industry as Lagos continues to develop into a smart city. 

This space will focus on urban mobility, which will provide a market for mass transit transport operators. 

The availability of these operators and their prices will be the primary factors that determine their decisions. 

LBSL has been given the job of ensuring that the Transport Industry in Lagos is maintained in an orderly manner, that correct coordination is maintained, and that progress is made.

Job Description

  • As a Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for monitoring the daily activities of our workshop to ensure that it is operating efficiently, producing high-quality output, and maximizing production. 
  • You will be the backbone of our operational success. Maintaining a workshop setting that is well-organized and runs well is a significant responsibility that falls on your shoulders.
  • In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team, optimizing workflows, and ensuring that projects are finished on time and under budget.

Responsibilities of Workshop Manager at Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL)

Fleet Maintenance Management:

  • Create and implement a thorough maintenance schedule for all Scania buses.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Keep detailed records of all maintenance tasks, component inventories, and repair history.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise and lead a group of mechanics, technicians, and support personnel.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate workshop workers.
  • Create a positive and productive work atmosphere that values teamwork and ongoing growth.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Monitor workshop activities to maximize efficiency and production.
  • Use best practices and new ideas to minimize downtime and improve vehicle turnaround time.
  • Manage the acquisition of parts, tools, and equipment to ensure their cost-effectiveness and timely availability.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

  • Ensure that all maintenance and repair work satisfies safety and quality requirements.
  • Conduct frequent safety audits and inspections to detect and mitigate any hazards.
  • Stay current on industry standards and regulations to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and rules.

Budget and Cost Management:

  • Manage workshop budget by controlling costs and allocating resources optimally.
  • Keep track of your costs and look for ways to save money without compromising quality.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Create frequent reports on maintenance efforts, fleet performance, and workshop operations.
  • Communicate effectively with upper management, providing updates and suggestions for improvements.
  • Communicate with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers through the supply chain as needed.
  • Ensure that workshop workers deliver hourly reports on assigned activity at least four times per shift.
  • Conduct daily audits of workshop tools and equipment before the start and end of each shift (this report should be presented at the end of business).
  • The audit should demonstrate the operating status of the tools and equipment.
  • Perform thorough preventive maintenance on workshop tools and equipment, including cleaning the work space before to the start and end of each shift.
  • Implement a fleet-wide optimal preventive maintenance, condition-based maintenance, and defect elimination program.
  • At the end of each day, create a plan and present it for review and approval, as well as a handover report that outlines what was accomplished, what activities are waiting, problems encountered, and actions needed to resolve those challenges.
  • Ensure that all workshop employees are rated daily.
  • Prior to approving each repair, do a job hazard analysis and establish job safety procedures. The approval or signing of working instructions, which must begin with the job safety procedures, will serve as the Permit To Work (PTW) for the assigned party (staff or contractor).
