Key Responsibilities
The Head, Database Administration will be responsible for providing strategic direction, managing infrastructure operations and ensuring that the organization’s data centre systems meet business and regulatory requirements.
Major responsibilities include:
1. Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Develop and implement the organization’s data centre strategy and long-term infrastructure roadmap.
- Drive infrastructure modernization initiatives, including cloud computing, virtualization and hybrid infrastructure.
- Develop business continuity and disaster recovery strategies for critical IT systems.
- Oversee data centre budgets, vendor relationships and resource planning.
2. Data Centre Operations Management
- Ensure continuous availability, performance and uptime of data centre infrastructure.
- Manage physical and virtual server environments, storage systems, backups and environmental controls.
- Oversee power, cooling and other critical data centre facilities.
- Monitor infrastructure capacity, performance and utilization to support future growth.
3. Governance, Compliance and Security
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, including ISO 27001, Uptime Institute Tier Standards and PCI-DSS.
- Implement and maintain data centre security policies and access control procedures.
- Coordinate infrastructure risk assessments, security audits and mitigation plans.
- Ensure appropriate environmental and physical security measures are maintained.
4. Team and Vendor Management
- Lead, supervise and develop a high-performing data centre team comprising managers, engineers and technical personnel.
- Collaborate with IT and business leaders to deliver infrastructure projects and resolve technical challenges.
- Manage third-party vendors and service providers responsible for maintenance, technical support and infrastructure upgrades.
Job Requirements and Qualifications

Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or another related discipline.
- A Master’s degree or MBA will be an added advantage.
Professional Certifications

- Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP).
- Certified Data Centre Specialist (CDCS).
- ITIL certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
- AWS or Microsoft Azure certifications.
Work Experience
- A minimum of nine (9) years of experience in IT infrastructure management.
- At least five (5) years of experience in a leadership or management position.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale data centres, hybrid infrastructure and high-availability systems.
Candidates should possess strong leadership, infrastructure management, technical planning and problem-solving skills.
