Job Purpose

The Business Integrity Officer – 1UL & Global BI Project Manager Officer (“BIO”) collaborates with a senior member of the Business Integrity (“BI”) team to provide ethics and compliance leadership and support to all countries in the “1 Unilever” cluster, which includes markets in Latin America, Europe, all of Africa, and parts of Asia. 

The BIO assists 1UL’s business leaders, as owners of Code and business integrity risks inherent in their operations, in identifying and mitigating them through the use of the Code and the mechanisms that regulate Unilever’s relationships with third parties. 

The BIO manages the 1UL group’s Business Integrity Committees, advises the business on how to operate in accordance with the Code, conducts risk assessments and trainings, and supports investigations. 

Furthermore, the BIO project manages significant BI worldwide projects directed by other BI team members and contributes to the overall operation of the global BI team.

The BIO reports to the Business Integrity Officer for Personal Care and 1UL, who is situated in London, UK. In their role as PMO, they will have dotted line access to other senior members of the Global BI Team as needed.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting Business Integrity Committees; sharing trends, best practices, and lessons gained; and offering advice to executives.
  • Promoting open communication throughout the organisation and assisting staff in raising problems in an appropriate manner.
  • Supporting the implementation of the global learning plan, which includes both mandatory and strategic non-mandated training.
  • Working with stakeholders to ensure that third-party compliance programs, such as due diligence and red flag mitigation, are implemented efficiently and effectively.
  • Lead, participate or collaborate as required in the different risk assessments and audits.
  • Leading or assisting investigations as required from time to time in coordination with the BI Investigations Group and other members of the team, although it is not the major duty of the function.
  • Provide assistance and oversight to assigned investigators to matters impacting 1UL nations e.g., BI, HR, Finance, Operations to assure quality of process and results.
  • Escalate matters as required, make suggestions on punishments and mitigation activities; assure responsibility, consistency, and timely implementation of remedial actions.
  • Be the project manager for chosen critical worldwide projects and for the running of the global BI team.
  • Be an active contributor for the continued enhancement of the Business Integrity programme

Key requirements & experiences

  • Bachelor’s degrees are required. A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline (such as law, business, or compliance) is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar field.
  • Knowledge and experience with business integrity risk areas, such as the US FCPA, UKBA, and significant bribery laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar job within a multinational organization.
  • Proven expertise conducting investigations in a variety of areas, including fraud, bribery, conflicts of interest, embezzlement, and theft.
  • Experience in effective management and monitoring of third-party compliance risks.
  • Experience in project management or providing managerial support to the central team (for example, as a chief of staff)
  • A strong reputation for integrity.
  • Focus on the demands of internal customers, as well as your ability to make effective ideas and solutions.

  • Fluent in English. Being fluent in Spanish, Arabic, or French is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to communicate at all levels of the organization.
