Job Purpose

The Chemical Pathologist is in charge of performing accurate and fast diagnostic testing and interpretation in clinical chemistry, assuring high-quality patient care, and contributing to effective disease management. This role demands extensive knowledge of chemical pathology, excellent analytical and diagnostic skills, and a dedication to patient care and medical excellence.

Core Responsibilities of Chemical Pathologist at African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE)

Diagnostic Testing & Interpretation:

• Perform and supervise a wide range of clinical chemistry tests, both standard and specialty.
• Interpret test results and correlate them with clinical data to make accurate diagnoses and advise treatment options.
• Consult with a doctor about proper test selection, result interpretation, and additional investigations.

Research and Development:

• Conduct and engage in research initiatives on chemical pathology and disease.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed publications and give presentations at scientific conferences.
• Keep up with the newest breakthroughs in chemical pathology and medical technologies.
• Assess and deploy novel diagnostic technologies and methodologies.
• Participate in quality improvement projects to increase the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic services.

Laboratory Management:

• Oversee the daily operations of the clinical chemistry laboratory.
• Manage lab resources, such as reagents, supplies, and equipment.
• Contribute to the creation and execution of lab policies and procedures.

Quality Assurance and Control:

• Maintain the quality and accuracy of all laboratory operations and outcomes.
• Implement and maintain quality control methods to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
• Participate in both internal and external quality assurance initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve all quality control concerns and discrepancies.
• Comply with all necessary accreditation requirements and recommendations.

Qualifications for Chemical Pathologist at African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE)

Educational Requirements:

• Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB, or similar) from a recognized institution.
• Completion of an approved chemical pathology residency program.

Professional Requirements:

• Board certification in chemical pathology is required.

Experience requirements:

• Four years of internship and residency training specialized in chemical pathology.
• Experience in tertiary care settings is preferred.

Knowledge requirements:

• In-depth understanding of chemical pathology and disease mechanisms.
• A thorough understanding of lab processes and techniques.
• Understanding laboratory quality management systems.
• Understanding of the relevant medical literature and research findings.
• Understanding of quality assurance and control principles.
• Knowledge of the applicable safety regulations and norms.

Skill requirements:
