About the role of Data Manager at Sightsavers

The Data Manager will oversee the complete data structure to assure its dependability, security, and usefulness in achieving project success.  

This position requires strategic supervision of data collection, analysis, and presentation, ensuring that correct information flows effortlessly from community-level activities to central platforms for decision-making and reporting during all project phases.  

The Data Manager will work with project teams, including two Country Office-based Data Analysts, state command centers, and partners, to ensure high-quality data standards and to support the evaluation of reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance.  

In addition, the Data Manager will provide clear insights, teach personnel, and recommend improvements, serving as a crucial liaison between field operations and project leadership to promote child health goals and inform policy.

Responsibilities of Data Manager at Sightsavers

  • Lead the daily collection, organization, and verification of project data to ensure accuracy and security.
  •  Establish and maintain data protocols by creating daily reports and flagging concerns for review.
  •  Facilitate the transmission of LGA-level data into applicable technologies, and provide biweekly updates.
  •  Ensure the successful usage of CommCare across field operations, resolving technical difficulties quickly.
  • Organize and enhance data from CommCare and KoboToolbox, incorporating information for practical use.
  • Analyze data to uncover trends and noteworthy results, which inform project decisions.
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts to provide reports that allow partners to evaluate project performance.
  • Present data-driven recommendations and projections at meetings and briefings.
  • Maintain Power BI dashboards to show project progress and provide monthly updates.
  • Create graphic representations to emphasize key data and create presentations for partners.
  •  Design and deliver training sessions for staff on data tools, including support and instructional materials.
  • Monitor the performance of employees engaged in data-related operations, ensuring compliance and timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with partners to standardize data methodologies and technologies, thereby enhancing project productivity.
  • Collaborate with the NTD MEL Manager to prepare data for analysis and guarantee its accuracy before reporting.
  • Collaborate during review sessions to offer updates on data quality and project progress.
  • Support monitoring of child health outcomes, ensuring data fulfills project objectives
  • Foster fruitful relationships with authorities and partners to ensure seamless data transmission.

Jobholder Requirements

Essential:

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in data science, Public Health, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Experience in data management, including at least three years within health-related projects such as child survival, AMR, and/or MDA programs
  • Demonstrated ability in educating, directing, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders on data-focused assignments
  • Advanced proficiency with ODK, CommCare, KoboToolbox and/or DHIS2 for managing health data
  • Ability to clean, validate, and standardise (Extract, Transform and Load [ETL]) data for analysis
  • Proficiency in Power BI or equivalent tools to clearly present data; understanding of mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) is beneficial.
  • Basic skill in Python or SQL to improve data processing efficiency.
  • Understanding of technologies such as QGIS or ArcGIS for representing geographical data
  • Strong Excel skills for data-related activities
