Application Guidelines for 2024 Nigerian Navy Basic Training School Batch 37 Recruitment
- The applicant must be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Applicants for entrance categories A5, B1, B2, B3, C1, D1, D7, E2, E3, E4, and F1 must have a school certificate and be between the ages of 18 and 22 by December 31, 2024. Applicants for NCE, Diploma (OND), Registered Nurse/Midwife qualifications in categories A1, A2, A3, A4, B4, C2, C3, D2, D8, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, E11, E12, F2, J, K, and N, as well as D3 (Sportsmen and Sportswomen), D5 (Chaplain Assistants), D6 (Imam Assistants), and H (Drivers/Mechanics), must be between 18 and 26 years old by December 31, 2024. - Applicants having additional qualifications, such as OND and NCE, must present a statement of results.
- Applicants should not be married.
- Applicants must be free of any prior criminal convictions from a court of law.
- Applicants with any of the following medical/physical obstacles are not eligible to apply: vision problems, ear problems, infectious diseases, mental problems, stammering, or any physical impairment. Applicants with tattoos are also not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be at least 1.69 metres tall for men and 1.65 metres for women.
- Applicants must possess any of the following educational/professional qualifications:
- West African Senior School Certificate Examination Certificate (no more than two sittings and no older than six years from the date of application, also applies to subparagraphs b-e).
- Ordinary Level on the General Certificate of Education.
- National Examinations Council (NECO).
- National Business and Technical Examinations (NABTEB).
- WAEC City and Guilds, or London City and Guild.
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
- Any other educational qualification comparable to those listed above.
- Applicants must present their primary school leaving certificate during the selection interview.
- All applicants must indicate or provide their National Identification Number (NIN).
- Applicants with educational/professional qualifications that exceed those listed in paragraph 8 (a-g) are not eligible to apply. Applicants are advised that presenting fraudulent or falsified documents for the Recruitment is an offense.
- Certificates or qualifications that were not declared, presented, and approved during the recruitment process are not acceptable afterward, and cannot be tendered for the purpose of changing departments or advancing while already serving in the Nigeria Navy. Only qualifications gained through valid service provisions are recognized in the Nigerian Navy.
- Applicants must print out the Applicant’s Declaration Form, Parent/Guardian Consent Form, Local Government Area Certification Form, Police Certification Form, and Guarantors Form, which must be correctly filled, endorsed, and provided at the interview.
- Applicants must arrive at the recruitment centres with the following documents:
- Photocopies of the Birth Certificate or Age Declaration.
- Photocopies of credentials, including the first school leaving certificate/testimonial.
- The Identification Form must be signed by the Chairman or Secretary of the Applicant’s LGA, or by an officer of the rank of Commander and above (or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force), or Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above from the Applicant’s State of Origin.
- Completed Parent/Guardian Consent Form, signed by the applicant’s parent or guardian.
- Four (4) passport photos, signed and stamped on the back by (c) above.
- Candidates must bring scratch cards for their WAEC, GCE, NECO, and NABTEB results to the recruitment centres.
- The Application Form should be completed and submitted electronically.
- Any applicant suspected or confirmed of impersonating, falsifying, forging, or presenting fake document(s) would be rejected from the recruitment process and turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for prosecution.
- Recruitment Aptitude Test will be held on January 18, 2025.
- Successful applicants would go through basic military training and then be enlisted in the Nigerian Navy as an Ordinary Seaman.

Educational Requirements For Entry Into Each Category
A 1 – Marine Engineer Artificer (MEA)
Minimum of 5 credits at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. OND shall be added advantage.
A2 – Weapon Electrical Artificers (WEA)
Minimum of 5 credits at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. OND shall be added advantage.
A3 – Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Airframe Engine) Qualification
Diploma in Airframe and Engine certified/recognized by ICAO and 5 credits at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
A4 – Aircraft Engineering Artificers (Avionics & Aircraft Electrics, Electrical / Electronics) (AEA-AA/EEE)
Certificate/Diploma in Aircraft Electrics & Avionics recognized by ICAO and 5 credits at SSCE or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
A5 – Shipwright Artificers (SHIPA)
Minimum of SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. OND in Mechanical/Electrical/Welding Engineering also eligible.
B1 – Marine Engineer Mechanics (MEM)
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also intermediate City & Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias will be an advantage.
B2 – Weapon Electrical Mechanics (WEM)
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also intermediate City & Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias will be an advantage.
B3 – Automobile Mechanics (AM)
Requirements as in B1.
B4 – Welding
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant Trade Certificate is mandatory.
C1- Communications
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics.
C2 – IT
Minimum of OND. Computer Studies/Computer Science has a lower credit value. Computer literacy is required, and applicants must have SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, and Physics. Proficiency or industry certification in any of the following areas will be an added advantage.
- Database.
- Computer-Aided Design.
- Personal Computer Maintenance.
- Networking Fundamentals.
- Website Development and Management.
- Programming.
D1 – Seaman
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language and Mathematics.
D2 – Survey Recorders
A minimum of OND Lower Credit in Land Survey, Cartography, and Geographic Information System is required, as well as an SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, or Technical Drawing.
D3 – Sportsmen and Sportswomen
Athletes must have an SSCE or equivalent with four credits, including English Language, and demonstrate athletic talent as well as participation in the National Sports Festival. Alternatively, candidates must have competed in any National Championship, All African Games, Olympic Games, or any International Competition with a license from the National Sports Federation/State Sports Association.
D4 – Physical Training Instructors
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language. Interest and proven talents in sports as well as evidence of participation in sports at Secondary School/State/YSFON level is required.
D5 – Chaplain Assistants
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language and Christian Religious Knowledge. Two years experience as clergy/church worker as well as letter of recommendation from 2 Clerics/churches recognized by the NN is required.
D6 – Imam Assistants
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Arabic and Islamic Religious Knowledge. Two years experience as Imam/Mosque attendant as well as letter of recommendation from 2 Islamic clerics/organizations recognized by the NN is required.
D7 – Firemen
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language.
D8 – Painting
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant Trade Certificate is mandatory.
E1 – Writers
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Accounts/Economics and Computer Science. Also OND/NCE in Accounts or Secretariat Administration and Computer Science would be added advantage.
E2 – Store Assistants
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics. Computer skill is an added advantage.
E3 – Caterers
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language and Home Management/Food Nutrition. Certificate or any proven experience as a Waiter or Steward is an advantage.
E4 – Ordnance
Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other 2 subjects.
E5 – Project Technicians
Minimum of OND Lower Credit in relevant discipline such as Architecture, Quantity Survey, Civil/Structure/Building Technology, Electrical/Mechanical installation, Urban and Rural Planning, Estate Management, Land Economy and must also possess SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics.
E6 – Tailoring
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant certificate or any proven experience is mandatory.
E7– Carpentry
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant certificate or any proven experience is mandatory.
E8 – Plumbing
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant certificate or any proven experience is mandatory.
E9 – Masonry
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant Trade Certificate and experience is mandatory.
E10 – Electrical Technician
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant Trade Certificate is mandatory.
E11 – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology
SSCE or equivalent with a minimum of 4 passes and a credit in English Language. Relevant Trade Certificate is mandatory.
F1 – Medical Assistants
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Health Science and Physics.
F2 – Health Technicians
The under listed Technicians are under F2:
- Biomedical Engineering Technician.
- Dental Surgery Assistant/Dental Health Technician.
- Dispensing Optician Technician.
- Environmental Health Technician.

A minimum qualification of OND Lower Credit or Professional qualification in any of the relevant fields stated above plus SSCE/Equivalent with 5 credits including English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Health Science and Mathematics.
G – Bandsmen
SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language. Applicants must be proficient in playing one or more musical instruments.
H – Drivers/Mechanics
SSCE or Equivalent with 5 credits including English Language. Current Mechanic apprenticeship certificate and evidence of driving experience with a valid driver’s license as well as a letter of recommendation [as a driver/mechanic] from past or present employer is required.
J – Journalists
Minimum of OND Lower Credit in Mass Communication, Journalism, Photography, Printing Technology, Information Library, Public Relations, Graphic Arts, Film Making or Cinematography and must also possess SSCE or equivalent with 5 credits including English Language and Mathematics.
K – Nurses
Single qualification RN and double qualification in any relevant qualification such as RM, A&E, ENT, Psychiatric, Pediatric, Orthopedic/Trauma, Ophthalmic, Anesthetic, Public Health, Occupational Health, Nephrology/Dialysis and Theatre Nursing. Applicants must possess SSCE or equivalent with 5 including English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Science, Physics and Chemistry.
N – Education
NCE in Arts/Science/Technical subjects in addition to SSCE or equivalent with 5 Credits including English Language and Mathematics. Possession of Techers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is an added advantage.
