About 2025 Fund Internship Program (FIP) – Economists At IMF

Successful applicants will complete a 10- to 12-week paid internship between June and September 2025. The actual dates of the internship will be agreed upon by the intern and the IMF supervisor at the time of offer. The internship will be conducted in person at the IMF’s headquarters in Washington, DC.

Under the supervision of an experienced IMF colleague, you will perform research and analysis on a topic chosen by the Fund. Your study may result in a research paper, which may be published internally.

Requirements for 2025 Fund Internship Program (FIP) – Economists At IMF

To be considered for the 2025 Fund Internship Program (FIP), you must be able to meet with the following requirements

PhD Students

  • Be within one to two years of finishing a PhD in macroeconomics or a similar discipline.
  • Be a student at the time of the internship (that is, continue your PhD studies after the internship).
  • Be under the age of 32 at the start of the internship.
  • Have a strong grasp of English, both written and spoken.
  • Have strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills.

To be considered, you must fill out an online job application, respond to all of the questions, and upload the following attachments under “Resume”: 

  • A personal CV/Resume.
  • A recent transcript for the university program in which you are currently registered, or a letter from your university, confirming your active student status and recent grades.

Only candidates who are identified for further consideration will be contacted by a FIP recruiter/hiring team. Incomplete applications will be rejected.

Previous interns who participated in the FIP will not be eligible and do not need to reapply.
