Job Description

As a Cost Engineer, you will be responsible for providing cost engineering services on different projects during the design and execution phase. This includes tasks such as scheduling, schedule controlling, reporting analysis, forecasting, and schedule optimization. Your role is crucial in supporting project delivery and driving business growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Efficiently overseeing and maximizing the financial performance of projects within the asset.
  • Developing detailed cost estimates for projects is crucial to ensure accuracy and alignment with project objectives. This involves considering various factors such as materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses. It is important to use appropriate tools and systems to achieve reliable results.
  • Keep a close eye on project budgets, analyzing any discrepancies and suggesting ways to maintain financial control.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to create efficient strategies and solutions, maximizing resource utilization and reducing waste.
  • Create and manage detailed cost reports and documentation, ensuring timely updates for key stakeholders.
  • Support in the preparation and assessment of project tenders, contracts, and procurement activities for the asset, ensuring adherence to company standards and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements, implementing best practices to enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.

Educational Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is required.
  • Having an advanced degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Having a professional certification (such as AACE or CCP) can be beneficial.
  • Must have at least 7 years of experience in cost engineering or financial management in the upstream oil and gas industry or an EPC company. 
  • Familiarity with the Niger Delta/Rivers region is a requirement.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong numerical accuracy and being able to read financial data to draw useful conclusions.
  • A deep understanding of important concepts, project management methods, and best practices for upstream oil and gas cost management.
  • A good understanding of business and commercial awareness.
  • Paying close attention to details and a strong desire to get good results.
  • Able to use software like Oracle, SAP, or something similar to figure out costs and do financial research.
  • A deep understanding of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) rules and best practices.
  • Able to organize things well and project management skills.
  • Able to work on several jobs at once and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work in a setting that is always changing and adapting to new operational conditions.
  • Willingness to work in challenging conditions as required and travel to field sites as needed
