The Role
We are looking for a talented and experienced Diesel Engine Service Engineer to join our technical operations team.
This is a key hands-on role responsible for the maintenance, overhaul and servicing of marine diesel engines and associated systems onboard our boats.
The selected candidate will be instrumental in guaranteeing vessel reliability, minimising operating downtime and maintaining the highest standards of marine safety.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Carry out routine and preventive maintenance on marine diesel engines and associated machinery.
- Perform complete engine overhauls, repairs, and troubleshooting onboard vessels.
- Ensure maintenance and servicing activities comply with manufacturer specifications and maritime safety regulations.
- Coordinate with vessel crew and technical teams to reduce equipment downtime.
- Assist with spare parts planning and inventory management for engine maintenance.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate service, maintenance, and inspection records.
Job Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Proven experience as a Diesel Engine Service Engineer, preferably in a marine or offshore environment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, overhaul procedures, and fault diagnosis.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Relevant technical or engineering qualification or certification.
- Willingness to work onboard vessels when required.
Technical and Training Requirements
Candidates should have:
- HND, BEng, or OND in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engine drawings, and maintenance schedules.
- Working knowledge of Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and condition monitoring techniques.
- Hands on experience with engine alignment, overhaul, and performance testing.
- Familiarity with turbochargers, fuel injection systems, governors, and engine control or monitoring systems.
- STCW Basic Safety Training certification where applicable.
- OEM training or certification on diesel engines such as MAN, Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, MTU, Cummins, Yanmar, or similar brands.
- Basic understanding of HSE practices and permit to work systems in marine or offshore operations.
- A relevant seagoing Certificate of Competency will be an added advantage.
