Job Description

To support IBEDC’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental and social compliance and to create, implement, and maintain a strong quality assurance system

 Requirements of Environment and Social Officer at IBEDC Ibadan

• A first degree in safety, environmental science, engineering, or a similar field.
• A postgraduate degree in any related field is an added advantage.
• Membership in relevant professional bodies. (ISPON); (BCSP); and (ISHM).
• At least 5 years of experience in HSE within a related industry (utilities, oil and gas, telecommunications, etc.).

Job Responsibility For Environment and Social Officer

1. Assist in the development, updating, and implementation of the IBEDC’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS); 
2. Keep track, follow up, and report on the Environmental Management Intervention initiatives at IBEDC’s offices and injection substations.
3. Organize internal capacity building and staff training on environmental and social regulations, guidelines, processes, and best practices. 
4. Keep track of the completion of recommendations from internal and external Environment and Social audit reports. 
5. Keep track of existing and future National and International Environmental regulations and guidelines as they affect IBEDC operations, and update the legislation register. 
6. Maintain a list of all relevant environmental and social stakeholders for ongoing involvement for company progress. 
7. Implement pollution-reduction and preventive techniques.
8. Assist in the identification, appraisal, and mitigation of all environmental and social risks to be incorporated into IBEDC’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
9. Assist in carrying out environmental and social inspections and audits.
10. Ensure the quick identification and reporting of all IBEDC’s environmental and social components and impacts.
11. Monitor and update the IBEDC Environment and Social Legislation Register regularly. 
12. Ensure that hazardous materials are handled, stored, transported, and disposed of in accordance with best practices. 
13. Keep monitoring of internal environmental and social processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and lending requirements. 
14. Monitoring stakeholder management – bridge the communication gap between IBEDC and the host communities. 
15. Distribute and enforce the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as eye goggles, hand gloves, nose masks, etc.
16. Encourage safe and ethical work practices within IBEDC.
17. Carry out any other responsibilities allocated by the Head of Environment and Social.
