The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the recruitment of ad hoc staff to participate in the conduct of the 2027 General Elections across Nigeria.
The recruitment exercise, which was started off on Friday, September 18, 2026, is scheduled to offer opportunities to eligible Nigerians to work in various temporary electoral roles during the 2027 polls.
In its recruiting advertisement, HotNigerianJobs said INEC was requiring almost 1.4 million ad hoc staff for the polls. About 176,000 polling places nationwide would need temporary workers to help with electoral operations.
The recruiting is taking place via the INEC Portal for recruiting of Election Staff (INECPRES), INEC’s official online recruitment portal for election workers. According to the official INEC recruitment portal, prospective individuals can apply online for various kinds of ad hoc election posts.
INEC 2027 Ad Hoc Staff Recruitment
The recruiting for the 2027 General Election seeks to attract temporary election personnel who will support INEC in the conduct of the polls.
The present recruiting drive includes the following posts:
Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO) Registration Area Center Manager (RAC Manager) Presiding Officer (PO) Assistant Presiding Officer (APO) Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) Officer
The workers will be sent to Polling Units, Registration Area Centers and other places where election activities are conducted.
The size of election day operations and the number of polling places have meant that INEC has depended mostly on ad hoc personnel for significant elections.

Deployment Across 176,000 Polling Units
The recruited personnel will be deployed to more than 176,000 polling units across the country for the two rounds of the 2027 general elections.
The Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will be held on February 6, 2027.
Ad hoc personnel are temporary election workers recruited, trained, and deployed for specific electoral assignments and are disengaged after the elections

INEC is recruiting for several categories of election personnel, including:
- Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs)
- Presiding Officers (POs)
- Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs)
- Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers
- Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) Officers
Eligibility Criteria
According to INEC, eligibility depends on the position being applied for, the applicant’s educational background, institution, employment status, and other specified conditions.
Categories of potential applicants include:
- Serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
- Former NYSC members who meet the specified conditions
- Students of Federal and State tertiary institutions
- Eligible Federal and State government employees
- Permanent staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)
- Qualified INEC personnel
- Eligible ICT personnel
- Personnel of institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres
Position-Specific Requirements
Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs): Eligible personnel in the Federal Public/Civil Service and other MDAs, including public-sector employees on Grade Level 10 to 14.
Serving NYSC members are also eligible under specified conditions, while former corps members whose service falls within the period prescribed by INEC—including 2024, 2025, and 2026, may qualify.
Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs): Eligible students of Federal and State tertiary institutions are among those who can apply, with requirements varying according to their year of study.
Permanent staff of Federal and State MDAs with OND or NCE qualifications are also included under specified conditions, with different grade-level requirements including GL 07-10 and GL 07-14.
Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers: The head of a school or a staff member of an institution hosting a RAC or Super RAC may qualify, subject to the specified requirements, including the applicable Grade Level 07 and above condition.
Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) Officers: The recruitment is focused on people with relevant ICT and technical backgrounds, including IT students of Federal and State tertiary institutions.

Important Notice
The Commission has advised prospective applicants to carefully study the conditions attached to each position before choosing a category. INEC also warned Nigerians against a fake online recruitment notice claiming that the Commission had commenced recruitment and training of ad hoc staff for the 2027 General Election.
