Job Description
We are seeking a qualified ETO with a COC (111/6) who is also amenable to a shore-based role in Nigeria and possesses a 2nd Engr COC (111/2).
To ensure the technical reliability and optimal utilization of the fleet, the day-to-day Maintenance and Repair (M&R) activities of assigned offshore vessels must be managed and executed within the established timeframe and budget.
Key Responsibilities of Junior Technical Superintendent at Smit Lamnalco
- Coordinates and executes ‘day-to-day’ operating maintenance actions (mostly preventive) onboard vessels to ensure technical dependability and prevent downtime/off-hire.
- Monitor and follow up on the planned maintenance system of vessels in MARAD, ensuring that repair jobs are produced and updated as needed, and that closed out jobs are reflected on MARAD.
- Supervise, coach, and instruct Chief Engineers onboard the boats to ensure technical management is in line with the company’s expectations.
- Undertake periodic vessel inspections in accordance with the Company Management System (SLIMS) and the Maintenance Management System (MARAD), function test machinery onboard to determine technical status, compile reports of all defects/issues discovered during such inspections and report status to the Regional Technical Manager (RTM) and Contract Manager (CM), and make plans to close all identified defects.
- Investigate and analyze the root cause of technical/machinery defects, and implement corrective and preventive activities in accordance with the Regional Technical Manager’s instructions.
- Arrange mandatory surveys with the Classification Society and the Flag State. Ensure that the vessel is technically ready for additional customer inspections such as OVID, SUPO, MAR 7, and pre-hire inspection.Â
- Supervise and assess the operations and performance of third-party contractors/vendors while they visit vessels offshore and in port.
- Ensure that vessels raise appropriate requisitions in accordance with M&R and Reported or Noticeable Defects. Collaborate with procurement and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of such requisitions.  Â
- Guides the personnel on board the vessels to ensure that the company’s standards are followed and that work is completed according to rules and specifications.
- Ensures that vessel certifications are in full conformity with statutory and class standards.
- Updates and maintains assigned vessel repair lists in MARAD based on survey results and ongoing M&R activities, ensuring a complete work scope for the ongoing M&R.
- Check and manage monthly inputs in SLDox.
- Ensure that changes to the vessel’s equipment are managed in close collaboration with the CM and RTM using a MoC.
- Ensure that MARAD and SLDox are up to date on the new equipment’s maintenance and data.
- Actively promotes Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) awareness and performance monitoring to ensure safety standards and safe working practices/leads ‘by example’.
- Work closely with the Contract Manager or his designation (Operation Superintendent) to ensure vessel reliability. As a result, the asset’s operational integrity is enhanced, and the contract runs smoothly.
- Obtain the participation of vessel captains for operational transparency, timely reporting of faults, and overall asset integrity of vessels.
- Prepares and manages the annual Running M&R budget in close collaboration with the RTM.
- Prepares six-monthly appraisals for Chief Engineers on boats allocated to him.
- follows our safety management system (SLIMS).
- Visit vessels offshore for routine checks, investigations, inspections, and operational evaluations.
- During time off, you may be asked to participate in the company’s in-house crew competency training or to attend to a vessel outside of Escravos’ operational base, such as Onne/Lagos, for repair.
Qualifications for Junior Technical Superintendent at Smit Lamnalco
- Electro Technical Officer Background
- Has proven expertise in offshore support vessels as a previous ETO.
- 3-5 years of experience as a junior technical superintendent/port engineer.
