The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program is a career-launching opportunity that connects bright young African graduates with 12-month paid internship assignments across the continent.

The program seeks to close the vital gap between school and employment by providing practical job experience, leadership development, mentorship, and professional networking opportunities. Since 2023, more than 1,000 Associates in 22 countries have participated in the program.

The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program connects talented young people with 12-month internships across Africa. The program works through partnerships with external organizations and Foundation partner organizations to support Associates in developing leadership, employability, and entrepreneurship skills following graduation.

Stage 1: Recruitment & Selection

Stage 2: Placement in Internship Roles

  • Successful candidates are placed in 12-month internship roles
  • Placements are with partner organizations across Africa
  • Associates work full-time in professional settings

Stage 3: Transition Pathways

  • Career transition support begins before internship completion
  • Support includes job placement assistance, entrepreneurship guidance, and further training
  • Associates are equipped for long-term career success
