10,000 People Across The Niger Delta Region To Receive Training
According to him, 10,000 people in the Niger Delta would receive the training and experience required for both gainful work and self-employment through entrepreneurship through the Youth Internship Scheme.
Ebie clarified that the program will accept youth with varying degrees of education and experience, but that they shouldn’t be older than 45.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, confirmed in his speech that developing one’s entrepreneurial spirit and skill set were essential to helping youths in the Niger Delta realize their full potential.
According to him, the goal was to help the young people develop useful, independent skills that would enhance their lives, assist their families and communities, and ultimately maintain peace in the Niger Delta.
Ogbuku clarified that the Commission’s 2024 budget includes the thoughtfully planned Internship Scheme and other youths programs of the NDDC, stressing that this was not a response to the protests occurring in other regions of the country.
He stated: “The scheme will also develop metrics for its impact on the economy of the Niger Delta region. Admission to the scheme will be highly competitive and will be driven by merit. Applicants will be required to include a personal statement in their application reflecting their commitment to meet the objectives of the programme and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.”
Ogbuku noted that the program would provide youths with opportunities in technology, music and art, agriculture, and the marine industry, among other fields. He also mentioned that each intern would receive a monthly stipend of N50,000 during the 12-month internship.

The NDDC boss said that all the nine NDDC states would have 500 slots before the application of the oil production quota for the remaining slots.
Giving The Need To Avoid The Hardship Protest Across The Country
Ogbuku stated that: “On July 30, we gathered in Port Harcourt to sensitise the youths of the region on the reasons why they should avoid the nation-wide protest planned then. The stakeholders unanimously agreed to stay away from the protest, demonstrating that despite our diverse nature and challenges, we are united in the view that we need development and not protest.
“This should tell investors that the Niger Delta is peaceful and eager for development. We recognise that things are difficult now in Nigeria and even in the global stage.”

He further declared: “We mark a significant milestone in our ongoing quest for progress and prosperity in the Niger Delta region.

“The NDDC Youth Internship Scheme is not merely a financial intervention, it is a symbol of our commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation.
“To our partners, stakeholders, and well-wishers, I extend my heartfelt gratitude, your support and collaboration are vital to the success of this scheme. Together, we can turn the tide of unemployment and steer the Niger Delta towards a brighter future.”
