About The Nigerian Army Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC)
The Nigerian Army Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC) Recruitment is a program created to recruit and train officers to serve for a predetermined amount of time in the army.
Duration: Officers serve for a total of 15 years, with the first 10 years on active duty.
Eligibility: Open to both civilians and serving military personnel (with specific conditions).
Training: Successful applicants undergo rigorous training to become commissioned officers.
Roles: Officers serve in combat arms (Infantry and Armoured Corps) and combat support arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps).
Rank: Upon successful completion of training, officers are commissioned as Second Lieutenants.
Conversion: There might be opportunities to convert to a regular combatant commission, subject to availability and other criteria.
Following training, the SSC Commission officers were commissioned as officers and assigned to the Nigerian Army’s Combat Arms (Infantry and Armour Corps) and Combat Support Arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps).
Entry Requirement of the Nigerian Army Short Service Commission (SSC)
All applicants must meet the following requirements to be recruited into the Nigerian Army Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC):
a. Be a Nigerian citizen by birth, as defined in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, as amended.
c. Be a male or female between the ages of 23 and 27 in January 2025.
c. Meet medical, mental, and physical fitness standards established by the Nigerian Army.
d. At least two recognizable referees from the applicant’s state of origin, either a Local Government Chairman/Secretary or an officer of the Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent/Assistant Commissioner of Police, must attest to the applicant’s good character. Passport photos of referees must be attached to the letter of attestation.
Candidates must provide a letter of attestation from their former institutions.
f. A height of at least 1.68m (for men) and 1.65m (for women).
g. Have not been convicted in any court of law. Military personnel must not have any disciplinary issues and must be approved by their Commanding Officer/Commander.
h. Hold a first degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division or a Higher National Diploma with at least a Lower Credit in the arts, sciences, or humanities from a recognized educational institution. Courses of study must also be accredited during their term of study.
i. Have a valid birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission, Hospital, or Local Government Council, or a valid age declaration.
j. Hold a valid certificate of state of origin.
k. Applicants (except serving members of the Armed Forces) must have a NYSC discharge certificate or a valid certificate of exemption.
I. Only post-secondary academic credentials received from 2014 to the present may be evaluated.
m. Applicants must include proper contact information for parents/guardians and next of kin.
n. Candidates cannot have anybody inscriptions or tattoos.
0. Candidates must provide original copies of all educational credentials (primary through post-secondary).
p. Service members must provide valid military IDs and letters of approval from their commanding officers/commanders. They must also provide legitimate letters of official sponsorship from tertiary academic institutions. In addition, they must have served in the Nigerian Armed Forces for at least 5 years. All Service personnel candidates must declare their service status on their application, as required by the Nigerian Armed Forces’ Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service. Failure to do so constitutes an offense and will result in disqualification at any level.
q. Candidates cannot be members of a cult, secret group, or fraternity.
r. Candidates must not have been dismissed or withdrew for disciplinary reasons from any military or paramilitary training facility.
Conditions Of Service
SSC will be awarded for fifteen years. The active list will last ten years (the initial bonding time), and it will be renewed for a maximum of five years. No extension will be allowed after the fifteenth year of commission, except for conversion to regular combatant commission, when applicable.
a. Officer cadets who successfully complete military training will be promoted to the rank of second lieutenant with seniority effective the start date of cadet training.
b. SSC officers have the option to switch to Regular Combatant Commission, although it is not automatic. It is based on the availability of vacancies and other criteria that are currently or will be in effect from time to time.
c. Before being commissioned into the Nigerian Army, all graduating officer cadets must sign an agreement accepting the SSC Commission’s terms and conditions.
d. The reckonable duration of service for civilians who become commissioned officers will be based on the date of the start of cadet training, whereas that of military personnel applicants will be the effective date of enlistment.

Method Of Application for the Nigerian Army DSSC 2024/2025
Applications will be accepted online for free from August 5 until September 15, 2024.

(2) You will be taken to a page where you can view the qualification requirements for the current SSC courses.
(3) Click the “Apply Now” option for the SSC based on your qualifications.
(4) At the prompt, pick whether you are now serving or have previously served in the Nigerian Armed Forces. Select the proper option and proceed.
(5) If you don’t already have an account, click “Sign Up” (a verification email will be sent to you), input your login information, and sign in.

What To Do Next After Submitting Your Application For The Nigerian Army Direct Short Service Commission
Applicants must print their online-generated photo-slip after completing their application.
The first page must be signed by the Registrar of any Court of Law, and the second page must be signed by the applicants’ Local Government Chairman/Secretary or any military officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent and above who is from the applicant’s state of origin.
During the interview, successful applicants would show their printed application documents (photo slips, guarantors’ forms, attestation forms, and so on) to the Selection Board.
