Job Description
The Transport Executive will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and timely transportation of cement from HBM Nigeria’s plants and depots to customers’ delivery locations.
The role focuses on providing exceptional customer service to distributors, frontline customers and other business partners while ensuring the effective management of transporters and drivers.
The successful candidate will coordinate transportation operations, monitor fleet availability, evaluate the performance of contracted Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) and ensure that distribution activities meet the company’s operational standards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Key Responsibilities
The major duties and responsibilities of the Transport Executive will include:
- Manage Transportation Operations: Oversee operational activities within the transport function to ensure the availability of suitable transportation for moving products from shipping points to designated delivery locations.
- Coordinate Logistics Activities: Work with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to understand and implement the company’s strategic transportation plans and overall logistics objectives.
- Manage Fleet Availability: Support the daily execution of the company’s transportation and distribution network by ensuring adequate fleet availability and vehicle preparedness.
- Coordinate Drivers and Logistics Providers: Ensure that drivers and Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) are adequately prepared and available to support the timely distribution of products to final consumers.
- Evaluate Logistics Service Providers: Conduct periodic performance evaluations of contracted LSPs in line with contractual agreements and established performance indicators.
- Manage Delivery-Related Issues: Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for delivery-related matters, ensuring timely resolution of issues and effective management of customer expectations.
- Monitor Shipments: Secure transportation capacity and monitor shipments in real time using tracking technologies such as GPS and In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS).
- Ensure On-Time Delivery: Identify and implement appropriate transportation solutions within agreed timelines to minimise delivery delays and improve customer satisfaction.
- Control Transportation Costs: Execute transportation initiatives aimed at achieving operational cost reductions and meeting the company’s savings objectives.
- Develop Logistics Service Providers: Support the operational capability development of contracted LSPs to ensure that their service delivery meets the company’s expectations and operational standards.
- Prepare Performance Reports: Prepare and submit data-driven reports and dashboards to management, providing visibility into transportation activities and operational performance.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators: Track important transportation performance indicators, including:
- OTIF: On-Time In-Full delivery performance.
- GIGO/CICO: Goods In/Goods Out and Check-In/Check-Out operational indicators, as applicable to the company’s reporting framework.
- Lead Time: Time taken to complete transportation and delivery activities.
- Identify Improvement Opportunities: Analyse transportation performance reports to identify areas for operational improvement, cost savings and better service delivery.
- Support Management Decisions: Provide accurate transportation data and performance updates to assist leadership in making informed operational and strategic decisions.
Requirements and Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and relevant operational experience.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to coordinate transportation and logistics operations effectively.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work with drivers, transporters and external logistics service providers.
- Ability to monitor operational performance and work towards achieving established KPIs.
