Applications are currently being accepted for the ongoing Chief Of Army Staff Literary Competitions 2025.

The COAS Literary Competitions 2025 are being organized by the Nigerian Army under the topic “The Nigerian Army: Securing the People and Promoting Development.  

The competition is accessible to applicants from Nigerian primary and secondary schools, as well as undergraduates, from Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 to Monday, March 31st, 2025.

Categories for the Competition

All of the categories for the COAS Literary Competitions are open to applicants who are between the ages of 5 and 11 years old (for primary schools), children who are between 12 and 17 years old (for secondary schools), and students of any age (for undergraduates).  The following is a list of the categories:

• COAS Essay Competition
• COAS Art Competition
• COAS Poetry Competition

General Entry Guidelines for the Chief Of Army Staff Literary Competitions 2025

All entries for the COAS Literary Competitions 2025 will follow the following guidelines:

• Application forms for primary, secondary, and undergraduate students must be completed online, printed, endorsed and stamped by the Head of School, scanned, and uploaded.
• There would be two levels of assessment.  An initial evaluation to shortlisted successful candidates, followed by virtual engagement with a team of assessors prior to the ultimate selection of winners.
• Any entry discovered to be non-original throughout the screening process will be eliminated from the competitions.
• All entries may be published in NA Journals or Periodicals.

Specific Entries Requirements

The following are the precise entry rules that applicants must rigorously comply to for each competition:

COAS Essay Competition: 

(1) Topics to be based on the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the People and Promoting Development).

 (2) The length of the essay for primary and secondary schools should not exceed 2000 words, while those for tertiary institutions should range from 3000 to 5000 words.

 (3) The essay should reflect the writer’s unique thinking.

COAS Art Competition 

(1) Artworks must align with the theme (Nigerian Army: Securing the People and Promoting Development).

 (2) All artwork is limited to painting and drawing.

 (3) The artwork should be accompanied by a short caption.

 (4) The submitted works must be the artist’s original works and have not previously been published.

 (5) Entries must be snapped/scanned and posted no later than March 31, 2025

 COAS Poetry Competition.

 (1) Every poem should be original.

 (2) Poems of any genre may be submitted, but they must be relevant to the competition theme.

 (3) Poems must have a maximum of 200 words.

 (4) All entries must be in the English language.

Prizes for the Chief Of Army Staff Literary Competitions 2025

The COAS Literary Competitions 2025 winners will receive certificates and cash prizes, as listed below:

COAS Essay Competition.

Ages 5 to 11 years.  

Primary: 

(1)  First place: N250,000.00 (2)  2nd Place: N100,000.00 (3)  Third Position – N50,000.00

Ages 12 to 17 years.  

Secondary: 

(1)  1st Position – N600,000.00

(2)  2nd Place: N250,000.00 (3)  3rd Position – N100,000.00

All Ages (Undergraduate)

(1)  1st Position – N1,000,000.00

(2)  2nd Position – N500,000.00

(3)  3rd Position – N200,000.00

COAS Art Competition

Ages 5 – 11 Years. (Primary)

(2) 2nd Position – N100,000.00

(3)  Third Position – N50,000.00

Ages 12 – 17 Years. (Secondary)

NOTE

• Closing date for submission of entries is Monday, 31st March 2025.  
• Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to all the winners at a specially organised event.  All winners will be duly informed of the date and venue for the presentations of certificates and prizes.
