Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accident & Emergency (A&E) Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with specialized emergency care certification and a proven ability to deliver rapid, life-saving care in a high-pressure environment.
- Arrival in Abuja: The Daughters of Charity came to the Archdiocese of Abuja in May 1996, initially providing free mobile health services to remote villages.
- Location: The hospital is located in Kubwa, a suburban district on the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
- Coordinates: Its physical address is often listed as Plot 501 Cadastral Zone, F01, Kubwa, Abuja
Key Responsibilities
- Complete discharge paperwork, instruct patients on home care, and organize transfers to hospital wards, intensive care units (ICUs), or operating theatres.
- Assist in life-saving procedures including CPR, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), airway management, and hemorrhage control.
- Track vital signs, run preliminary tests, analyze lab or radiology results, and monitor patients during acute changes in condition.
- Rapidly evaluate incoming walk-in and ambulance patients to prioritize care based on medical severity (acuity levels).
- Update physicians, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (paramedics, specialists, ICU), and provide guidance and reassurance to distressed patients and families.
- Administer emergency medications, start intravenous (IV) lines, dress wounds, set fractures, and assist with minor surgeries or suturing.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in A&E nursing practices.
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Registered Accident and Emergency Nurse (RAEN) from an accredited institution.
- Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and licensed to practice as an A&E Nurse.
- Possess valid life support credentials such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Specialized emergency nursing certificates (e.g., Certified Emergency Nurse [CEN]) are required.
- Prior clinical background in medical-surgical nursing, critical care, or general ward experience is preferred.
- Essential skills: Quick decision-making under extreme pressure, multi-tasking, emotional resilience, clear communication, and technical proficiency with medical and resuscitation equipment.
